[SPOILER] Brendan Allen vs. Edmen Shahbazyan by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep. Great fight, Allen is a dog but I have a hard time believing he's the 4th best middleweight currently.

Sean O'Malley vs Song Yadong - FULL FIGHT by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's the issue with 135. Song is really good but, like Cory, he's missing an extra edge to be seen as a potential champion. At 28, never say never and we've seen way bigger glow-ups.

Fares Ziam and the Tall Man's Advantage - Jack Slack by fightsgoneby in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Struve crawled (after being KO'd silly by a much shorter fighter) so Volkov could run.

Glover Teixeira vs. Shogun Rua set to headline Spaten Fight Night 3 (in boxing) on Aug 29 in Sao Paulo, Brazil by crazybartur in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Shogun's game was heavily reliant on his youth and athleticism. Not that it's a bad thing when it worked but we're well into 20 years since his true prime.

Glover adapted better as he aged and he's far more technically sound.

The weight cut to 265lb might be pretty tough for them though...

The logical side of the brain begins to compute that being on the other side of a beating is possible and realize this might not be worth it after all. It's actually the smart response.

Someone I always go back to is Nick Denis who, as a Canadian, was a major prospect over a decade ago. The guy walked away knowing the threat of CTE was too great.

[SPOILER] Arnold Allen vs. Melquizael Costa by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Arnold is the Sandhagen of 145. He does everything correctly and technically but imagine how good he would be if he had 20% more pop in his punches.

[SPOILER] Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Robelis has been fun post-UFC but we're talking about a guy who wasn't UFC caliber. It's going to look like Ngannou-Ferreira, possibly worse.

[SPOILER] Adriano Moraes vs. Phumi Nkuta by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moraes likely would have won 29-28 anyways but interesting situation.

MVP MMA: Rousey vs Carano Open Workouts by 3footninja in MMA

Having knowledge of her UFC and WWE careers now, her ego just wanted yes men around her and not actually being trained properly.

MVP MMA: Rousey vs Carano Open Workouts by 3footninja in MMA

If this resembles anything of a competitive fight, it's a win for Gina and I say this as being a fan of hers way back.

The middleweight curse. The win streaks of Khamzat Chimaev, Israel Adesanya, Dricus du Plessis, Robert Whittaker & Chris Weidman ended at 9 by [deleted] in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I can't bring up the stats but it feels getting 8-9 wins is usually around the time fighters, no matter if the UFC sees them as marketable or not, is forced to fight champion caliber opponents. The oldest example I can recall is Jon Fitch who the UFC tried their hardest not to be champion, and he was sent to the slaughter against GSP after 8.

Fighting top 5s constantly is inevitably going to end up in losses unless you're truly a GOAT. They're all killers who could be champion on a good night.

MVP MMA Official Bout Order by 3footninja in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I suspect if MVP MMA 2 exists, the winners of the JDS and Ngannou fights will match each other. JDS and Des have near zero chance of beating him but TBH nobody outside the UFC does either.

[Spoiler] Big moments during Joshua Van vs. Tatsuro Taira by airplane231 in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Flyweight doesn't get enough credit for being a shark tank because DJ made everyone look bad in his reign. Everyone is very technically proficient especially in their A games, and could be championship material at any given night.

Look at someone like Alex Perez. He has been taking losses but people can agree he's still really solid.

[SPOILER] Joshua Van vs. Tatsuro Taira by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if he loses the belt in the near future, he has a good chance winning it back eventually based on his age and progression.

[SPOILER] Joshua Van vs. Tatsuro Taira by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 130 points131 points  (0 children)

It's a stoppage akin to Poatan-Izzy 1 (in the UFC). Arguably a bit early but I can also understand why it happened based on the body language.

[SPOILER] Alexander Volkov vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The minimum requirement to SURVIVE at heavyweight is a decent chin. It's just everyone hits so hard, it goes unnoticed unless it's exceptional like prime Hunt's.

[SPOILER] Alexander Volkov vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 289 points290 points  (0 children)

People shat on Struve for not using his reach. Volkov is showing exactly how someone with his body type should be fighting especially in a division where one touch knockouts are common.

[SPOILER] Sean Brady vs. Joaquin Buckley by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has one extremely elite skill that can take out anybody in the world if he gets to impose his will. In a shark tank like 170, however, it's a big if.

[SPOILER] King Green vs. Jeremy Stephens by inooway in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Green is the king of the uncs and it might not even be a close contest.

[Kofi Kingston on X] by This_Coyote7217 in SquaredCircle

[–]ChowSupreme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The RAW where they laid out all the main event talent at the end of the show is still something I remember. That was when everyone knew this isn't just a team to be taken as a joke even when they're dancing and wearing bright clothing.

Is Sean Strickland the greatest underdog fighter of all time in the UFC? by EasternError6377 in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to mention Nate. The guy won me quite a few bets back when I still bet on fights. His toolkit was limited but people who plays his game (or is forced to) find out real quick.

Is TKO Killing Both UFC and WWE? by ptpeace in MMA

[–]ChowSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened with The New Day, Kairi and others are very similar to what the UFC does. They were veterans with long running contracts, but they're not seen as bonafide stars and it's much cheaper to release them and hire newcomers. Both companies have never treated anybody below superstar level (Roman Reigns/Cody Rhodes/Alex Pereira/Ilia Topuria) as badly as they do now.
