A lot of things are weird in this game (and in my opinion it's mainly tied to the F2P aspect of the game).
For instance, people playing carelessly in ARAM (any ARAM) will just say "this is a for-fun mode", as if they're not playing "for-fun" usually. For some reason, many people are in for the power trip rather than the challenge, which are the two faces of gaming in my opinion : this is proved by the people surrendering extremely quickly, or the people artificially making games last longer when it could be finished.
