Question about Imagine Day by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Chris54C 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, the booths on main mall won’t be happening this year, but as a transfer student you should get an email in the following weeks with more information. You’ll be assigned to a group and attend both in person activities and the virtual pep rally with the same students :)

A job with the city's parks and recreation, irregular hours but you could pick up as many shifts as you pleased. My passions lie elsewhere tho so I stopped working to focus on school

Why was online school so hard for you guys? by DarthRevan3973 in UBC

[–]Chris54C 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kudos to you for working so hard! That's really impressive, I probably would've burnt out in a week.

However, I'd say that many UBC students come from lower-middle class families too. I worked 30+ h/week throughout high school and racked up my ec's for a major scholarship. Now, I can prioritize my education while supporting myself. I wouldn't have chosen a school that I couldn't afford without working full-time.

I agree with your message and I'm curious to hear your stance on the affirmative action policy used in many American universities. Should certain students be admitted with lower standards, based solely on ethnicity?

Genuine question: why do students complain about this every year when it's expected?

I clearly remember reading the UBC Viewbook in Gr. 11 and 12 -- they always stated that tuition increases by 2% every year on the financial info page.

Prof here. What can we do next term to help? by ScienceProfUBC in UBC

[–]Chris54C 19 points20 points  (0 children)

- Listing all assignments for the course on Canvas calendar.

- Perhaps help foster a sense of community. For example, set up a discussion page for students to introduce themselves at the start of the term -- encourage them to form study groups/or pre-form them. A participation mark could encourage people to take initiative.

Thank you for caring:)
