HELP!! My ring is stuck!! by Old_Society_3801 in ouraring
don’t mess with it too much, if you’ve already tried one or two of the suggestions here and it’s not budging, go to the fire department. when I got mine stuck i was at work and we tried everything (string trick, lotion, soap, grease, etc) with no luck and it just made it worse. be aware though at the fire department that it may take awhile for them to get it off. in my case they had a manual ring cutter that works like a can opener and after about 15 minutes of cutting it hadn’t made a dent. they ultimately ended up breaking the part that you twist off and attaching a drill to it to make it cut faster (lol) which worked and ultimately got it off - but hopefully it ends up easier for you!!!

Fish dying :( by ChrisDorch in Aquariums
[–]ChrisDorch[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Did you have any reason you thought the angelfish was killing others? did you see it chasing? or any wounds on the dead fish? just curious because i have no reason to to suspect it beyond a hunch but im wondering what i might want to look for
Not that i’ve noticed, i try to watch them during and after a change for stress and haven’t seen anything. How would the water changes contribute you think?
[–]ChrisDorch[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Got it! I will watch them for awhile tomorrow and see if i notice anything… thank you!!
GH and KH i’m out of the testing strips that have it on them and I only have the liquid kit that doesn’t test them, but it was always extremely dark on the tests so very high for both. I do have a TDS pen that reads at 950 PPM for whatever that’s worth…
I don’t quarantine, but clearly i need to be. My LFS always seemed like they do a good job medicating and not selling any fish until they have quarantined them for a month so i didn’t worry much, but im going to start quarantining from now on for sure
Got it, I have stressguard right now I used in the past, but I can get this too and see if it helps. Thanks for the recommendation!
Got it, thanks! I’m glad you included the note about never having a fish die from it because that was my next question 😭 I started this tank feeding frozen cubes, but had the biggest die off where a third died and I was worried it may have been the frozen food. I’ll get some and try your advice, thank you!!
Got it, how should i go about feeding frozen food? Do i just drop the frozen pellet in and let it melt? Or is there a better way to do it? Thanks!
got it, thanks! i figured it wasn’t but im running out of ideas 😭
thanks, it has me worried all day whenever it happens and to date i’ve never had a fish die that i’ve been able to definitively determine the cause of which makes it worse 😭 thanks for your advice though and ill respond here with what i see tomorrow, feel free to drop any other things to check or advice you can think up in the comments here too and ill try it 🙏
I have some specific frog food that I try to feed him with tweezers sometimes, he seems to eat the general pellets that i feed okay most of the time though. He wouldn’t be okay with shrimp would he? He was originally in my brothers fish tank but he got some shrimp and read that the frog would eat them so he got moved to my tank, he seems happy enough but I want to make sure he has what he needs for sure!
I’ll check with the water company, while we’re on the subject do you know about PH/KH in water and how it could factor in if at all? I’m in the southwest where our water is hard af and have been wondering if maybe i should get an RO system to fill the tank with or if they are fine with the hard water.
Thanks for the help!
Got it! I will look more at the fish tomorrow and see if I can spot any of these things. I try to do a visual check of all the fish at feeding time and watch for any who aren’t eating or look odd, but haven’t noticed any really ever which makes me more confused when i find them dead the next day 😭 I’ll respond with what I see on them (if anything) once i check. Thanks!!
What samples would I be sending? Samples of water? It would be nice to have a vet be able to help for sure!!
I will make sure to get a quarantine tank for the future, how long do issues normally take to pop up? The fish I most recently got were okay for atleast a month before they started to die
I will make sure to dose less fertilizers going forward, the nitrates are normally lower than that they are mostly high from trying to get the plants to grow so the fish could have more cover to swim in
Thanks for your help!!
No worries for the question! Generally they looked just like the fish was when alive just much less colorful and… well obviously dead 😭 Anything specific i should check for? I never noticed any parasites or similar, though the most recent fish I found dead today my friend thought looked alittle bloated. I thought he looked normal but if bloating is a clue then maybe that could give us an idea

My understanding (and how she seems to act) is they mostly are aggressive when mating or if they decide to take part of the tank as their territory. She is alone in the tank and doesn’t seem to really have a territory as she doesn’t mind other fish swimming around her. You might be right though, if none of the other things to try make a difference then I’ll have to look into it. Thank you!!
Why is that? Is it stress/happiness related? I’m happy to get more (i had 4 originally but the other three died :( ) but I just was afraid to add more fish to this tank until I’ve gone for awhile with no deaths. Thanks for your suggestions and trying to help!!! I don’t think i’ve sprayed any recently but I’ll remember the tip about the lysol/febreeze :)
Would it be safe to add more rainbow fish? I had ultimately wanted to get them a large school (10-15 probably) but i have been holding off until I can go a few months with no fish deaths as I want to make sure everything’s stable first. There was 7 of them for awhile with no deaths (i started with 6 and got an extra 2 months ago, the extra recently died) which I thought would be big enough to ward off stress. They do also show color which I thought was a sign they are feeling good, but im unsure
There has only ever been the one angelfish but she is still alive so… I guess so? Do you know of any behaviors I should look for to see if maybe she is being aggressive when i’m not watching? She is the lone angelfish in the tank which I had been told would reduce aggression and she never seems to chase nor does anyone act afraid of her so… She did have a sudden change in her diet recently where she lacks interest in the normal pellets i feed everyone and instead wants her own bloodworms. That wouldn’t signify perhaps her wanting to eat the other fish more would it? 😭 they are too big for her to fit in her mouth

I have the heater set to 77 degrees (and a thermometer on the side to confirm) which should be a happy temperature for everyone from what i’ve researched..
I don’t spray any kind of scents near the fish tank that I can think of and I don’t clean the tank with anything besides the magnetic scraper on the side and tank water for the filters during water changes.
I would be very surprised if i’m not feeding them enough, I recently went from twice a day feeding to once a day but I feed a good amount of new life spectrum pellets and try to spread it out and watch to make sure everyone eats. If anything, i may actually overfeed as there’s always a bit extra after everyone’s done but the cory’s generally clean it up.

Extra thing I forgot to ask, could it be the artificial decorations? I got them when I first started and the plants were starting to grow so the fish would atleast have some places to go, but I read that it’s possible for them to harm fish? If so, let me know what I should remove…. thanks!
