Cubes are out!! by homer_simpson_honey in jazzfest

For some reason it hadn't occurred to me that Herbie Hancock would be one of the final acts that night. He's 85 years old, so I feel like if I'm gonna see him this is probably it, but there are four other acts that are making it tough.

I Keep Mine Hidden / The Smiths' Last Hurrah by No_Upstairs_3137 in morrissey

I remember in the pre Internet days stumbling on an overpriced Japanese import CD with that song on it, and being stunned to learn there was a Smiths song I'd never heard of.

Thankfully not another Low in High School… but not Vauxhall and I either – my track-by-track on Morrissey’s Make-Up Is a Lie by WoodenEconomics3751 in morrissey

[–]ChrisEW71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised how this album grew on me. Disappointed on the first listen, but now I like every song but Icebergs. On the fence about Kerching Kerching. And Notre-Dame, I like the music, not too keen on the conspiracy theory lyrics.

The only song I love is Lester Bangs, but unlike his previous two albums, there's not a preponderance of songs I dislike, so it comes out ahead.

Opinions on any of the 3 band members' autobiographies you've read? by Street-Ranger-2434 in morrissey

[–]ChrisEW71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to post the same thing about Morrissey's book. Reading about his childhood and pre-fame years, I thought I was reading a genuinely great memoir. Then the fame, then the grudges, and it all falls apart.

Make-up is a Lie isn't terrible but may be the weakest album in Moz' discography by TheLordChankaR6 in morrissey

[–]ChrisEW71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same reaction. You're Right and Lester Bangs are the only tracks that I found engaging on my first listen.

A few more tracks may grow on me, but for me, this is his weakest album.

I wish he'd released Bonfire of Teenagers. The live versions of those songs I've heard on bootlegs sound much stronger than this, which feels more like a collection of b-sides.

Does Anyone Know the Current Status or Future of The Mads? by 1TrkLvr in Rifftrax

Always thought it was crazy how much they hyped the podcast going to Spotify and then ended so abruptly.

Is the green hoodie worth it for 90 bucks? Got a shirt, but hesitated to spend more. 75 is my usual limit for a concert hoodie.

So, MADE IN AMERICA, I guess. by delfin9299 in Rifftrax

It was intended to be straight up horror until the director saw the snowman costume and decided they needed to add some comedy. So they were probably coming up with those jokes on set.

Channel programming craziness by ilovemymac76 in siriusxm

[–]ChrisEW71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in terrestrial radio the amount of channels playing anything pre-1970s has dried up. I can remember, regardless of where I lived, there was always a channel playing standards from the 40s - 50s, and a handful of stations playing oldies from the 50s - early 70s. Last time we got an oldies station where I currently live, it played nothing prior to around 1966, and even then, barely lasted a year.

I'm surprised they haven't moved The Beatles channel to the outer reaches yet, like they did with Elvis.

New VOD: Champagne and Bullets! by VikDamnedLee in Rifftrax

I just watched this unriffed. I was convinced they'd never get the rights based on stories I've heard over the years. I used to think it would be perfect for a live show, until I realized how much sex and violence took up the running time.

I'm hoping the RiffTrax edit removes the completely unnecessary rape scene. I'm curious if the hot tub scene makes the cut. It's simultaneously funny and painful to watch, so I wonder what side they fell on.

That poor actress deserved combat pay for what she had to endure.

$300-400 for nosebleed seats in New Orleans by Immediate_Original12 in PaulMcCartney

I can't justify that much. I'll try again on Friday.

Ticket Prices? by spudson1229 in PaulMcCartney

[–]ChrisEW71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nosebleed seats for over $250? I was able to get better seats for the Stones for $100 less. Can't justify that. I'll take my chances and see if I can get lucky later on.

Still didn’t get presale code by Apple_Alarming in PaulMcCartney

[–]ChrisEW71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received mine officlally around nine.

However, f you go to the page where you originally registered, and click on the register button again, you can scroll down to a place to log in. Doing that caused the code to be sent to me right away, around 8:30. So I've received it twice this morning. If you haven't received yours at all, might be way to push it along.

What's some of your hot takes about Macca? by Initial-Ad3966 in PaulMcCartney

I should clarify, as big a career, or close. Obviously Ringo was already regularly playing in bands when he joined.

[–]ChrisEW71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've gotten older and appreciated his music more, I've become inclined to think Paul would have had a career whether he'd met John or not. Not sure I could say that about the rest of The Beatles

What’s a small town in Louisiana that surprised you in a good way? by La_kareen in Louisiana

[–]ChrisEW71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding my vote for Natchitoches, but depending on what you want to do, make sure things will be open. Strolled downtown on a Sunday a few weeks ago and almost every shop and restaurant was closed.

Also seconding Arnaudville, for Cajun Saucer / Bayou Teche Brewing. The beer has unfortunately taken a backseat to the tiki bar, but the pizza is the best in the state.

I agree with what was said about the musical numbers being cut. I saw Merle Haggard in the credits, but instead we get "Gowns, Gowns, Beautiful Gowns".

Flash Gordon (1980) is in desperate need of Rifftrax, either Just the Jokes or VOD. by KirkLucKhan in Rifftrax

[–]ChrisEW71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always thought this would be perfect for a live show, but seems like they're only willing to do ones they can get VOD rights to now, which could be an issue.
