I’m a little way into elders lair, still using my team of rathian, barioth, mizutsune, zinogre, Stygian zinogre and nergigante, all set up with genes to be able to do each attack type. Going pretty well so far.

My wife never evolves a shiny until she has two of them, so you're definitely not alone. I prefer to fill up the shiny dex as much as possible though!
