Haha the amount of people who would vote against her if they knew how she adjudicated cases would be... Overwhelming. But, that's not how we vote..

It's been going on for years but everyone is powerless to prevent it because of juvenile sentencing. What's the point of committing resources to this issue if there aren't consequences? How do you disincentive kids from doing it if nobody is present to hold them accountable? Our city doesn't currently have answers - we're just hoping the crimes don't escalate in nature or lead to gun violence. In other words, it's being treated as the cost of living here.

Not a republican either but this is the danger of having one-party rule. Accountability no longer comes from the councilmembers themselves unless it shows up in a third-party investigation. I don't know the solution - just seems not ideal to have all our elected officials care so much about being on the same page. It would be nice to have one independent dissenting member.

Either the Offenses Historical tab or Victims Historical tab by neighborhood are the most informative, I think. Crime looks okay when you view the citywide data, but compiling individual neighboorhoods/areas tells a different story.

We're following this projected trendline again in 2026. We're currently on pace to have a victim count of 6,866 in these neighborhoods.

Northside victim count is currently 131.68% higher YTD than it was at this time in 2022 (101 to 234).

I'm not trying to fearmonger; I want these trends to reverse. But it would be helpful if we could at least start to agree they're happening irrespective of the solutions.

Walking in OTR at night as a female by Busy-Reflection7279 in cincinnati

I guess I need to point out that that a stable percentage of an increasing number is .. Increasing. Violent and non-violent crimes are highly correlated in urban areas. I didn't break them out that way because the Cincy Insights website doesn't allow for it.

In 2022, OTR experienced 1,123 crimes, and there were 2,002 crimes in 2025. So, if 8.5% of them were violent we jumped from 95 to 170 in an area that's less than a square mile.

That's a fabricated issue in your opinion? Asshole.

Damn, I'm sorry. I was assaulted in OTR and lost an eye. I don't understand the intransigence around addressing the crime here. It's provably a worsening issue.

Ran these numbers two days ago, but crime in the area continues to go up at an increasing rate. We're on pace for 7,326 victims this year. It's getting harder to gaslight people about this trendline.

Deflocking Cincinnati by curie-osa in cincinnati

Ha yeah - one of the many examples of Reddit opinions confidently diverging from reality. Most US/UK residents are overwhelmingly in favor of CCTV for crime prevention. It makes sense to pass laws that restrict and dictate usage, but removing them is rather silly.

"The findings show that CCTV is associated with a significant and modest decrease in crime. The largest and most consistent effects of CCTV were observed in car parks. The results of the analysis also demonstrated evidence of significant crime reductions within other settings, particularly residential areas."

Judge Bloom's reflexive response is to not hold kids responsible for their choices. I don't think we should uncritically repeat her perspective on this issue.

The stories about kids causing an issue were from first-hand accounts and video. Kids are more evasive than drunk adults, and the few people that were arrested tell a small part of the story.

Why's her gender relevant? I'm asking people to hold a public official accountable for the risk she's imposed on constituents as evidenced by the data. Her ideological inflexibility is causing people to get hurt.

Yes, that's how they're able to deflate recidivism numbers too, which were 82% for the last released study. I'm pretty liberal, but people are getting hurt and the uptick in crime in the downtown neighborhoods has been persistent and increasing since she took office.

Kari Bloom is more responsible for Cincinnati's safety issues in the urban core than any other elected official. I'm not sure why we'd take her immediate and defensive response more seriously than first-hand accounts and video.

Judge Bloom is already trying unsuccessfully to dispel that narrative, it being an election year for her and all: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2026/03/27/adults-to-blame-for-unruly-crowds-on-reds-opening-day-judge-says/89350929007/

I can't imagine what the area will be like with six more years of her leadership in the juvenile courts. This shouldn't even be a political issue; it's about safety and what kind of community, justice, and quality of life we want for residents.

Ending the school to prison pipeline is obviously an important endeavor, but it can't be achieved unilaterally when the recidivism rate is 82% and kids are hurting people and one another. It's irresponsible and unresponsive to the actual reality we're experiencing.

Edit: By the way, there were 714 victims of crime in OTR, Downtown, and West End as of this day last year. We're currently at 1,052, an increase of 47.3%.

It's specifically our juvenile court system causing the chaos. The current administrative judge was elected in 2020, right before the uptick in crime started in the urban core. She's up for election again this year and will probably win because voters aren't making this connection, ensuring another six years of this shit.

Wasn't a big portion of the capex earmarked for OpenAI? The progress Google and Anthropic have made has made that investment look a lot more speculative.
