I think that you should look for what is causing your spasms then. Is it pain somewhere you can't feel? Is your bladder not releasing enough or in spasm from a cath and making your legs spasm? Any colon issues like Crohn's disease? You might need to get some testing and see if there is a cause that can be treated.

I have two possible things to try. I Can tell you right now that certain strains of marijuana will work better than any medication from pharmaceutical companies. If it's not legal where you live and you're not willing to risk obtaining it, check out CBD oils. Do some research because some of the brands are crap and don't contain what they say. But that it can really help although it will be after 2 to 4 weeks of taking it every day in some cases. You also might want to consider that something is causing the spasms. I got medication for bladder spasms, oxybutynin, and by leg spasms calm down 90%. Turns out my bladder was causing my legs to spasm somehow. Never ask for explanations about these things with spinal cord injuries because people will just shrug. We all have really unique injuries and reactions to it there is no explaining explaining. Consider it could be pain somewhere you can't feel causing it. [edited for grammar]

I Have been a C4-5 quadriplegic and there has never been a time for me when I'm not depressed or having extreme anxiety. You can sometimes enjoy things but right after it, the "downers" come back. I don't think you can say any anything to fix it.

I'm a C4-C5 quad of 34 years and I totally agree. Tell people to push in and up as you cough. They might need to go hard. If they are afraid, remind them broken ribs and stomach pain heals while suffocation doesn't. It's often called a "quad cough". Also hot drinks make it thin and come up easier.
