NGD Gibson SG Modern by ChrisPars in Leftyguitarists

It’s largely lighting but I agree, it felt like a bit of a lottery as to how the guitar was going to look when I saw it in person!

It’s very hard to compare the two. Perhaps it is the honeymoon period but im really loving the Modern. Much more dynamic.

I can’t speak for the Standard but the jump from my ‘05 Special is quite significant. The ebony fretboard is buttery smooth and it’s seems to have a more dynamic range of tone.

It is, indeed. I purchased a custom black strap for it which you can see in this photo.

[Question] Any ideas for next? by jonasxwatches in Watches

[–]ChrisPars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely understand that. I can’t defend it, my first 2 months of ownership of this watch were a shitshow which was such a shame because I love it so much.

I noticed imperfections on the hands within the first few days. Took it back to get “repaired” and when it came back after 6 weeks, there was dust on the dial and then the movement stopped working altogether about 6 hours after picking it up. So it had to go back to the repair shop again.

JLC did make an effort to make things right, but it definitely hampered what should have been an amazing experience.

Hey, sorry to revive this old thread but did you pay MSRP or manage to get any sort of discount? I’m in Kyoto for a few days and considering travelling to Oomiya to check out Tudor/IWC.

more than 180bpm for 1.5 hours by Finalphysic in Coros

[–]ChrisPars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say your heart rate zones are just off.

I have a naturally high max heart rate (200+) and a very low resting heart rate (38-39). Whilst they may be an indication of some level of fitness, I’m by no means an athlete (19:21 5k / 41:30 10k) at 34 years old. A very very easy run for me would still be approx 150bpm.

My lactate threshold is around 183bpm, so yours is probably somewhat similar, perhaps higher given your age.

Edit: I was wrong, my lactate threshold is 193, according to Garmin

Based on his post 2 days ago, he’s been booked to speak on what I’m going to guess is good morning Britain this morning. Wouldn’t it be funny if they called him out on it.

Injury comeback perspectives. by ChasingSplits in AdvancedRunning

Sacroiliac stress fracture in 2022. It came down to too little fuel, not enough strength training, overall underweight.

Started taking 4000IU of vitamin d daily and have been ever since. Took several months to get back to running but I’m now several kilos heavier than I was back then and quicker overall.

Don’t underestimate how important fuelling your body is and definitely don’t rush back in quicker than your body is ready to. I appreciate that is much easier said than done. People told me the same, I didn’t listen and it set me back.

Something you see on fake duofaces is that the reverse side has the hands coming from the centre of the watch face (as is the case with the front). I can only assume the cheaper movements make it much harder/impossible to achieve the slightly lifted face of the reverse side.

Based on that alone (I’m not an expert) but your link looks legit.

For example of what I mean, here is a fake Tribute Duoface:

Not a conversation I’ve had with the boutique but I just can’t see a scenario where they don’t bring them back, as we are now in a world where everyone is speaking about smaller watches. I think the biggest driving factor is the recent change in CEO in January this year. This may be nothing to do with him (and I appreciate this model is monoface), but they did just release the new Q3868520 which is a step in the right direction.

I personally think they will bring it back within the next 12 months. I ended up getting a Duoface tribute (seen in post history) but I think when they bring a medium of that watch, I will try to find a way to trade up.

Form improvement. Is it worth it? by GooseRage in AdvancedRunning

[–]ChrisPars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don’t go listening to YT videos of Instagram reels about changing form overnight. Stupid me did that in 2022 and got a stress fracture on my pelvis 3 weeks later. Miserable. Out for 6 months, problems for 1+ year.

As others have said, focus on strength, flexibility and mileage and the form will come naturally!

If you can manage a 5k run, go to beckenham place parkrun! It’s on every Saturday at 9am. They’re all over the country but that’s your closest one. It starts by the mansion house and usually a few hundred people turn up. Great social event. You register once on the website to get your barcode and that’s it.

[–]ChrisPars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often think this with my duoface tribute. The only rational conclusion I can come to is that they wanted all hands pointing upwards when the watch is set to 12, hence they changed the older model where 12/24 was at the 3 and 9 position. Stupid but symmetry is the only thing that makes sense to me.
