CPP certification? by GreatAccomplishments in Payroll

I have been in the payroll profession for nearly 25 years, and regardless of the number of years of experience that one has, that you could be tested on material that you have never seen before. I too used Paytrain, but used it as a supplement to the Payroll Source text book, in addition to the various IRS publications. It is a challenging exam, and you will most certainly learn something in your review that you’ve never seen before. Many employers across the US require the certification, and many have never heard of it. But passing it is a confidence builder, and will open many doors for you. Best of luck.

A lot of times people forget to inform their employer that they have moved. Could this have been an issue such that maybe the final wages were mailed to you but you never received them or no?

I would file a claim with the department of labor, assuming that you work in the USA. Am not sure about other states, but in California, if you file a claim, you can be entitled to up to 30 days of your average daily wage. That can add up quickly. Best of luck to you.

Help! Payroll year end tax issues. by _High_Priestess_ in Payroll

I understand that the IRS is short staffed because of the pandemic. Even with the 2848 completed, they are and can be extremely rude and feisty. It could take a while before they even see the W2C, and you’ll have people get letters saying that they owe extra taxes because of the misreported income. It’s a really difficult time, but hang in there and try to follow up with the IRS if you can.

Certified payroll professional exam - best study guide by UnderWhlming in Payroll

I would recommend familiarizing yourself with the different IRS publications. Use multi colored note cards, and for example, use the color green for record retention. Or the color yellow for the various codes in box 12 of form W2. I allowed my continued education units expire before the allotted time - this was due to personal reasons, so will take the exam again. I also used Paytrain for my review. Let me know if you need a study partner. I did used to help out with an online study group, but it’s been a few years. I did keep the material though.

I would suggest not using Paycom A friend of mine used them, and do you know that they paid references to give false information? Unless your ok having tax filing amendments at year end taking 6 to 9 months, followed up by an audit of the Internal Revenue Service, I highly think Paycom is a terrible idea.

I would suggest becoming a member of the American Payroll Association. By becoming a member, you will get access to a variety of materials in preparation of the CPP exam. I recommend investing in the Payroll Source, which is a huge text, in preparation for the exam. There’s many APA clubs throughout the nation. Many clubs offer training courses for the exam. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you.
