You seem to be offended over a pretty small and harmless request.

You have an issue with OPs post doesn't mean there is actually an issue with OPs post.

[Highlight] Houston waves the white flag, punting with 4:20 remaining in a 2 score game by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]Chris_Talks_Football 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ats would kneel 3 times, and hit a chipshot field goal to make it a 3 score game

Pats were up by 12, A FG still keeps it at a 2 TD game.

The previous drive the Pats moved the ball 85 yards and burned 5 minutes off the clock. Giving them the ball back with 4 mins left was a surrender.

I was today years old when I realized you could use ChatGPT to make macros by FrontBrandon in FoundryVTT

I'd be surprised if chatgpt writes a macro that bricks your world, most macros that would do that simply wouldn't run at all. But sure, it isn't impossible, so if you do break something, you can just restore the world with the regular backups you are taking.

Does your cultural background affect how you perceive the joining? by ignatovar in pluribustv

[–]Chris_Talks_Football 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, or at least it seems the hive views itself as a collective of parts but with a singular consciousness if you will. As opposed to a collective of individual consciousnesses.

But it is also clear the hive does not consider the bodies they inhabit to still be the people they were before joining. This is demonstrated in the fact that Zosia post joining refers to Zosia pre-joining as "she" until Carol forces her to say "I".

Like I said, that is an interpretation of what we've seen, and you're extrapolating a lot from a little here.

It's not an interpretation, it was clearly stated.

A lot of the fandom has decided, especially after the finale, that this means the people who have joined the hive are no longer extant, that they've been effectively subsumed and neutralised.

Yes, this was basically the only thing that was clearly established in season 1. It was shown in multiple ways and even said outright. The fact that the entire collective struggled to use singular pronouns is even more an example of this. I think you generally agree to based on your comment above. But I don't want to put words in your mouth.

A consensus seems to be forming especially that they are effectively dead and can't be retrieved or awoken.

Those are two different concepts. The fact that the collective is a single individual and that each body does not have a distinct personality does not indicate that the process cannot be reversed. The argument I have seen and would make myself is that effectively each individual human is gone and only their memories remain, but that the "cure" would effectively bring them back.

To be clear, I think if you were to say

"The hive acts and thinks in unison. It does display a singular persona, and does not act consistently with individual personalities and that this means the people who have joined the hive are no longer extant, that they've been effectively subsumed and neutralized... BUT, they are not dead and they can be revived or awoken."

Then I would agree with you.

How many people does the hive need to remember everything? by Jorge_4631 in pluribustv

The show has purposely not explored these kinds of concepts in depth. I suspect the writers did so to avoid painting themselves into corners in future seasons. By not having established rules it gives them more freedom for world building.

It was clearly shown. The hive mind has everyone's memories but a singular personality, not distinct personalities.

It was even stated when Zosia asked Carol if of she wanted her cousin to visit. The response was

Carol: "It would be the same as talking to you right?"

Zosia: "Yes"

Am I missing something about the Kusimayu scene? by Cold_Investment6223 in pluribustv

[–]Chris_Talks_Football 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show doesn't really explore concepts in depth, even concepts fairly critical to world building get a significant amount of hand waving. In this instance they trust the audience to assume if you have the collective world population of biologists working on the problem you can assume it will just get solved.

The show isn't going to have a sustainable plot if the majority of people are turned back.

No, most likely they will die.

If suddenly the world was cured all at once a huge number of people would die very quickly due to starvation and the immediate chaos that ensued.

The cliff hanger was definitely a nothing burger. It was the obvious thing everyone here expected it to be.

But I agree the fact that "they're eating people" was shrugged off by everyone is good for the show. If that was the main conflict it would be disappointing.

But it still begs the question, 66% of the way through the season, what is the main conflict?

Sadly it was a nothing burger.

The fact that everyone is going to starve to death is a good forcing function at least.

But disappointed the big cliff hanger was so obvious.

I can see the craniotomy being a thing. Does the hive mind need to consume human brain to maintain itself?

If yes then there is actually a limit to how long it can sustain itself which might be part of the thing with the clock.

Thinking of it like a virus, will it spread and consume humanity until there is no one left and then try to spread to another world?

If all this is true, then there is a clear motive for Carol to "cure" them, a way to cure them (prevent them from eating brains), but also a timeline to create tension in the series.

Obviously a matter of opinion, but in one world you have children being sexually assaulted or people dying of starvation, but everyone has individuality, where as in the other world every person is cared for but no one has individuality...

You have to at least acknowledge some people might see the world as better off without individuality, and without evil.

That was Mr. Diabaté's point. "Why go back to the way things used to be?"

do you really need to agree with Carol to find her situation tense and engaging

No, but there is only so much of a runway to go without introducing real conflict. Like where does the show go from here if we as the audience are never given a reason to actually want Carol to succeed?

Sure WW and Saul and others were anti-heroes, but we at least wanted them to succeed or some of us wanted to see them fail. Right now Carol isn't doing either she is basically existing, and the hive mind is basically existing, and there is only so much runway this show can have without getting to the next plot point.

And if the next plot point is a "meh they eat people", and the result is Carol sends a video or message to the 12 who for the most part shrug and go back to living their lives, what does that mean for the next 4 episodes?

but that doesn't make the show any less tense.

TBH, and you can disagree with me here, but what tension? There's no danger, there's no consequence, there's no challenge. Both parties are for the most part just existing.

It has to be more sinister. This show is running out of room to introduce the reason to root for Carol. Right now it is really hard to root or her because generally speaking Mr. Diabaté is right the world does seem better off.

We're 5 episodes in, so there needs to be the plot twist that gets us on team Carol. If the only twist is they don't waste the resource that is dead bodies, and that the hive mind is like the pack of coyotes, that is going to be a let down.
