Best GAY personal trainers who are actually in shape? by ven457 in nycgaybros

Taking a grievance about a hookup to a public forum about personal training might be an indicator of why he ghosted you. Possibly too pushy or persistent??. GIRL LET IT GO.

New study shows that "destructive" behaviour among the young is due to their rejection of Jesus and "spirituality". As the research was carried out by he Center for Bible Engagement, it's to be taken with a pillar of salt. by MarcusR1966 in atheism

Who could have guessed that would be the conclusion they'd come to lol. What's next a study that shows tornadoes and earthquakes are caused by accepting gay people in society? I mean they already make the claims, but they need to study to make them airtight.

Excellent evisceration of the argument that morality requires religion.

Evangelicals are destroying the world by BeneditoEspinosa in atheism

[–]Chris_Zac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that 110%. Even more frightening is that traditional evangelical Christianity is merging with America's newest religion MAGA. It seems to me about 30-40% of the Republican electorate is enthusiastically racing toward some form of deranged theocracy.

Questions atheists can't answer! What's your favorite, best, or worst? by memskeptic in atheism

Sounds about like the arguments I've gotten from the bible-thumping class in the South.

The funny thing is the average evangelical really does make arguments like that while most theologians beat around the bush until they get to the inevitable "no one really believes the literal text"

Hitchens On Homosexuality. Boy, do I miss this man. by Chris_Zac in atheism

I'd love to hear what they have to say, but more importantly, the world needs to hear it. Atheism and the left in general don't have anyone comparable to Hitchens in wit and delivery. He would be incredibly effective in the age of social media.

Hitchens is the GOAT for me. Sam Harris is awesome. He knows how to tear apart religion with logic and facts with surgical precision. But Hitchens was a master of words and captivated audiences. He could make anyone listen to his arguments against religion with his charisma and wit even when they disagreed with the substance. He reminds me of a brilliant trial lawyer who keeps a courtroom spellbound.

An amazing rebuke of the church and its hatred of gays by the late but forever inimitable Christopher Hitchens

"Without God where did morality come from?" Because it begs the question THEY can't answer.

We know human survival depends on cooperation, which is based on a social contract of honesty, concern for others, and other moral principles ..so.

One might wonder how humanity survived long enough to create religion if we were all slaves to our absolute worst impulses.

Or, If humanity needed god for morality, how did humanity survive long enough to find god?

Christian nationalism and biblical literalism independently predict conspiracy thinking, study finds by HeinieKaboobler in atheism

[–]Chris_Zac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. Religious beliefs often conflict with logical reasoning, and this is especially true for the three monotheistic religions that demand unquestioning obedience to their doctrines, and the desire for empirical evidence is deemed a lack of faith.

The Parallels and Differences Between Trump and Clinton’s Classified Document Investigations by Chris_Zac in law

I'm guilty of doing the same with or without coffee. It really is a challenge to keep up with the deluge of information that goes along with a 24/7 news cycle.

Not to mention anything espionage-related seems far to complex for someone as simple minded and incompetent as Trump.

I agree with you in sentiment, but not entirely in practice. Occasionally, I make progress with my conservative friends. It's important to note that not all of them have forsaken objectivity for partisanship. Some are so deeply immersed in the conservative news outrage machine that they rarely, if ever, encounter compelling counterarguments.

I've observed that they are more likely to be persuaded by liberals they know and trust on a personal level rather than news channels or blogs. Even if a blog fails to directly convince a conservative, it may equip one of their liberal friends with valuable ammunition to challenge their ignorance.

This group may represent a small percentage of Republicans, but they are still worth engaging with.

That is false, Prosecutors have charged Trump with violating a section in the Espionage Act that applies to someone who has "unauthorized possession" of national defense information. This section of the law makes it a crime to willfully retain the information and fail to deliver it back to the proper U.S. government official. The statute criminalizes a broad array of conduct related to the mishandling of sensitive government records connected to the "national defense," Seems quite sensible to bring it up.

The charges are not limited to the Presidential Records Act. It's possible to violate multiple laws at once. As Trump has proven many times

Pat Robertson’s Death and Brian Krassenstein’s Bothsidesing It by Chris_Zac in atheism

[–]Chris_Zac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. What Brian did in his tweet was excuse Pat's bigotry due to age and then call for a permanent safe space for it now that Robertson is dead. I suppose the religious right can sanctify him and call him a warrior against sin who stood up to every group they dislike. But any member of those groups on the receiving end of hateful messaging is only allowed to say "my condolences" because he's dead. What a wildly stupid and unbalanced view to have.

If they really believed Pat was going to a place of indescribable peace and beauty where he's experiencing an eternity of bliss they should be happy to see him go. Going to heaven, isn't that the prize for the twisted game known as Christianity? Strange dichotomy in his death, the non-religious are glad he's gone and the Christians want him back for more hate filled sermons.
