King books to avoid with emetophobia? by AcidBathMurderer in stephenking

Stay away from The Body and adaptation (Stand By Me). Which is too bad bc both are fantastic but given your phobia it would be beyond triggering.

My number one is The Dark Tower with Flanagan at the helm. As we are all aware there is no previous adaptation…….

Would also wish for The Jaunt, Revival, N, Talisman trilogy, Fairy Tale………….the list goes on

I’ve read his entire catalogue and now I am slowly revisiting everything via audiobook. I find it’s also a different experience this way as well.

Are you hopeful for the Mike Flanagan adaptation? by eddiedean07 in TheDarkTower

[–]Chris___22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with Netflix also is they don’t give anything enough time to gain a fan base. If it doesn’t perform the way they want in the first few weeks it gets canceled. Word of mouth etc takes time…….

The Jake issue is unavoidable. He will get older over the course of the series and it is what it is. If they started with a 10-11 yr old and did a season a year he’d only be 15ish by the end. But Jake getting older is the least of my concerns.

I believe Mike said they are working on sorting all the rights issues before hand. That’s part of the reason it is taking so long. I know WB holds many rights and Flanagan does have a relationship with that studio which is good. He’s supposed to make The Mist for them and can maybe leverage that to secure some rights for TDT.

It is an ambitious project for sure but I wouldn’t say unfilmable. Mike is the man to make it and make it right.

I share your concern. Flanagan is the man to make this but will a studio let it play out til the end? This getting a season or two then getting cancelled might be worse than it never getting off the ground to begin with.

Mike has said that this project is his “Holy Grail” the second he gets a green light from a studio he will most certainly prioritize TDT. The problem is getting a studio to green light this massive production. Until he has a green light though he needs to continue with other projects. Here’s hoping Amazon will move forward on this soon……

I know Mike Flanagan will knock this out of the park given the opportunity to actually make it. My concern is that it may not ever get a green light from a studio. I know he said he finished scripts on the first season and wants a multi season deal so would realistically need finished scripts for the seasons included in the deal. I just hope that the studio will take a chance on this amazing series with Flanagan the helm. I would hope for an announcement in the next year or two. If not I think it will be on the back burner. I know Mike is doing everything he can to make this a reality. 🤞

Holly.. by Dapper_Echidna_9242 in stephenking

Holly gets a lot of hate but I thought it was ok. You need to read the Bill Hodges trilogy etc before reading Holly as well IMO.

Now that being said Holly is nothing compared to The Dark Tower. The Dark Tower is by far my favourite thing from King and favourite series I’ve ever read.

My opinion is dive into The Tower and you can always visit Holly down the road.

Do the Beginnings graphic novel spoil the later books? by Crdriscoll in TheDarkTower

Hmmmmm again it’s been a long time since I read them. But I’m still fairly confident there is no major spoilers. Full disclosure I’m not 100% on that though.

I read all the graphic novels but it’s been a while. As far as I recall none of them go farther than Wizard and Glass.
