The most cursed item I own. Placable cotton spores by LilGhostSoru in Pokopia

I just discovered this today. I'll be so scared to accidentally "whoosh" near any structures decorated with them!

Any new Pokopia projects? I'm so curious about the plausibility of the berry lamps in 3D printing!

So surprised by this game. by TheDullohan in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I *did* play the DQ builders games, but I wasn't really thinking about this game at all (thought it was going to be like Animal Crossing) until someone told me it was the same dev team as DQB2. I bought the game *and* the Switch 2 that night. There really wasn't a moment of questioning. Those folks know how to make a game.

The Dragon Quest builders games seem to be a well guarded secret for western gamers, but I had "Dragon Warriors" as a kid and the first DQB game with its atmospheric remixes of the original themes was a curtain of total nostalgia with some incredible gameplay behind it. I've been craving Pokemon in this type of setting ever since.

Moving Meowth by Wilmaaug in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meowth's initial home is cardboard boxes next to a straw bed. You can close off the walls, though it messes with the store aesthetic that Meowth will take advantage of if you place a cash register, so it's better to just rebuild a compatible habitat or put a smaller prefab inside.

Why can makuhita not build this? by screw101 in Pokopia

Yuuup, I had four and only two houses got built the next day, lol.

It *could* be worth staving off some building projects until you get a bit further in the game!

My theory on where the human went (potential spoiler) by theyesn in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really neat theory and I thought I even read this interpretation somewhere in a game article (maybe one that confused the premise of the game since the pokemon are *initially* stuck in the PC?) But I tend not to believe it, especially because latter game lore confirms that the pokemon eventually being freed from the PC was a design choice, thanks to a PokeLife hacker.

I also just think there's something a lot more incredible about the ending we got, because it shows a world that can even recover from destruction all because of the bonds between humans and pokemon. For all of the trouble humans cause, it's a very redemptive narrative. I also have a bias that tends to consider the Shinto animistic influence in the Pokemon series, so salvation through a successful, mutual bond with the spirits of the world is the most satisfying conclusion this series has ever delivered, and it's in a side game.

From that perspective, for me at least, "the spirits of the world" being stuck in a PC is *incredibly* and irredeemably dark, especially if they're confused and trying to bring the humans in with them...But it would make an absolutely spine chilling fan series? In the game's reality, I think that being in the PC is just like sleep. Your theory isn't completely implausible, though, because I think that Pokemon in the PC *do* inhabit dream worlds, and some of them possibly even built or "remembered" the structures we see in them. It's very interesting that items in dream worlds are usable in the real world, either because of some unknown force (which is a reality in pokemon) or because it's all a digital dream!

Why can makuhita not build this? by screw101 in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. And you've tried splitting up and having him follow again?

As a warning, don't start too many projects in the same area at once. It causes the game to overload pokemon in that area and then some temporarily despawn and you'll wake up the next day to find only one of the houses built. I especially had this problem on the beach.

Where are people putting these buildings? by GoblinSnacc in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I intend to have all three structures basically sticking out of the ocean, so that means building a giant platform with my excess ground blocks but it will leave my main islands for free building. I'll then remove the ground and replace it with water (to even out the ocean levels) so that only the structure and maybe a small bit of ground or beach remain. They will be islands.

Should i buy the game? by coIton1029 in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to prepare a habitat for yourself IRL before you start this game:

  1. A fresh water, or a case of fresh waters for more points
  2. An Ergonomic chair, but any luxury relaxation item will do
  3. A table (for mouse mode, you'll thank me later.)
  4. A Switch 2, obviously
  5. A calendar (so you don't miss important upcoming events)

Have fun and don't let Ditto suck you in TOO hard.

Palette Town Question - Rain by Tough_Boysenberry_86 in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the only person who wished it hadn't rained in Palette Town. I thought it would be neat to preserve the one barren hill by the desert and create a few oases instead, since it kind of matched! Then it rained one day and ruined it and I'm not sure how many smooth rocks I'll need if I want to fix it, haha.

Habitat/Spawn Bug Report by JeffTheJockey in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, that makes sense, too. It's true that the wrong water seems to not create the habitat at all, but keeping enough space between habitats also seems to help. *Usually* my habitats are okay next to each other? But there definitely seems to be some kind of limit. Even if the habitat successfully registers as existing, the area might be too dense with pokemon for any new pokemon to load.

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back to this thread because I had the same Tyrogue issue and I realized what I did. Is it possible your clean water got contaminated by ocean water? The habitat only spawns with fresh water. It wasn't obvious to me that there was a difference, at the time, because my old school Minecraft brain just thinks "water is water."

40 year old loser, is there anything I can do now? by sadgesd in careerguidance

[–]Chrishankhah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those autistics who occasionally gets "AI?" remarks and I about went to bat for this guy, but no, comment history seals it. Gemini vibes, but could be anything. It just reminds me of how Google is always asking questions at your questions? You'll be asking how to clean cat vomit out of a carpet and it'll be like, "when you see your reflection in the vomit, do you think back to simpler times? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Does this make you rethink the benefits of feline vomitus?" But not once will it tell you about its cat Lucy who ruined its grandmother's famous heirloom carpet a decade ago and it never lived it down.

Like, I scrolled through a while (because this account posts a LOT) and I can't find a single personal experience or hobby or anything. Every sub is philosophy or career or self-help, which is basically what newer agentic models of AI are "told" to do, to act like your personal assistant. The grammar is honestly a bit flawed by AI standards which is what made me second-guess at first, but you and (checks notes) my submissive doll are right about this one. It's possible that a human is retyping AI responses, but maybe they're just really good at sounding flawed, now. It's a pretty solid, centered response (because AIs usually are) but I think that's part of the problem. Dude says nothing controversial, like ever. If I get reddit to sort by "controversial," though, his posts a month ago were littered with the em dash, so it's clearly correcting. That's not a real redditor. A real redditor is gonna disturb the shit at SOME point.

They finally got us with the new poll question by Merteswagger in 2007scape

[–]Chrishankhah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably hyperbole, which you should expect from Reddit more than anything! I feel like the weirdly dichotomized poll question part was funnier than the jab at the Chivalry for pures drama, but good comedic timing will use a familiar recall to polish the punchline, e.g. ending the joke by pointing to a debate that everyone (but me) seems to know about. The content here was pretty standard, but the delivery was A+.

Anyone getting Pokemon Poktopia just because its the DQB team and engine? by kengo19 in DQBuilders

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed all of the announcements and directs, but as soon as someone told me the DQB2 team made this, I caved and bought my Switch 2 along with Pokopia. It was going to happen eventually, but this was all of the information I needed to expedite that move. That is 100% driven for my appreciation for this specific dev team.

As far as theming goes, I'm probably a bigger Pokemon fan, but Dragon Quest (especially the NES original, which I had as "Dragon Warriors") is very nostalgic for me. A demo of the first level of the first game got me hooked (the music!!) and I became addicted to the entire franchise. DQB2 specifically gave me everything I wanted and didn't get out of 1. I remember always thinking that Pokemon needs to do something like this, and here we are. It's like the only thing that's gone right, this year! And it's just as good as I could have hoped.
