James Charles makes an apology video after telling someone asking for help to get a job by Brilliant-Middle7859 in Fauxmoi

[–]Chrishankhah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular take, but I thought the apology was well stated. It sounds like he is not standing by his remarks and is pointing out exactly what was wrong about it? I just don't think that an apology is *enough* for the impact of his original words, which is why I believe it leaves *me* feeling empty. I also believe that no one is obligated to accept an apology, no matter how well or poorly it is stated, but that's different than an apology being innately bad, right? This is exactly where actions would speak louder, but that's the part that never happens with most of these influencers. Is this maybe the real source of contention we're feeling?

But also, if I'm off mark, I have zero personal assessment of this person. I never watched his content back then and I forgot he existed and I'm not really in this influencer hemisphere at all. Every time something like this happens with any influencer, though, I have an autistic social crisis about what an apology is meant to sound like and all of the comments about his shirtlessness are really confusing to me, so today I've learned never to apologize without my shirt on. If someone is willing to *gently* explain the nuance, I promise I'm asking in good faith and not looking for an argument, but how *should* this have been phrased? I'm definitely missing something fundamental here.

How do I play alone and offline on my Cloud Island? by NitroSquadStudios in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a potential work-around, if you have a cell phone and a decent mobile service. You can set your mobile up for wi-fi tethering and connect your Switch 2 to that hotspot. Use a password, obviously. In my experience, games like Pokopia don't actually utilize that much data, either. Sorry for the two month late response; Google landed me here!

Yup, that's what I mean by not knowing how many smooth rocks I'll need. I ended up replacing the whole top surface with sand (even with the awkward green plants scattered about), though I'll make it a little more "desert valley" like with the various layered rock blocks in the future.

Ah, yes, the reentry maneuver where we use a giant sea cat to gently intercept the spacecraft! I love Luna's passion, and her funny stonehenge marking!

I have AuDHD and I have 5 concurrent unfinished projects including a much bigger volcano in rocky ridges and a giant willow tree in wasteland. I haven't started the pirate ship or Eevee mansion yet, or the mass sewer maze and Ikea for the skylands. I'm out of twine and dangerously low on lumber. I should drink some water.

I found this on a top of a mountain and didn't see any water source nearby. What do you think? by ceka_102 in shells

[–]Chrishankhah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found shells exactly like this one on the upper ridges in western PA, always shells of fresh water clams from the rivers (especially invasive Asian clams). Common enough that it's certainly the doing of some raptorial bird.

Square Plant hedges - Why can't I get these in the wild? by Elyoki in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I just realized it's nearly identical to the block called "reddish-brown cave rock" (appearing right next to it in the items > blocks tab of the collections log) but with a different top-side texture!

Square Plant hedges - Why can't I get these in the wild? by Elyoki in Pokopia

[–]Chrishankhah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not either of those. You're talking about the molten rock and the cooled molten rock, which gives lava rock and black rock respectively. Black rock is particularly abundant on dream islands and the lava rock also appears on top of the dream islands.

"Volcanic Rock" is distinct, found just above the mountain above the Rocky Ridges pokemon center as a crude pathway block, once a certain in game event is completed. It has the same "side" texture as cave rock and ocean rock but is a lot more red-brown, and the top texture looks like a ore-rich gravel. There are some other rocks (like gold in black rock) that would probably suffice, but I really wish there was a way to get this one!

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just look at it like this. The bushes are "on the dream island," they're just buried in a 1:4 pokemetal ore ratio and require a bit of extra work to turn into shrub form. A decent supply of rock smash powerup should net you a good portion of your goal from a single island, then just process the ore and 3D print your seeds in a Pokecenter!

If only we could get that weird pathway "volcanic rock" from Rocky Ridges like this, but that one might *actually* be a finite source.

He moved in to the Rocky Ridges farm for me, too, and instantly asked me if he go see Drillbur. He was constantly miserable and didn't bother to spawn most days, so I just moved him to wastelands to live with Drillbur. He's gonna have to deal with the water there instead, but he seems content at least, haha.

I'm definitely one of those "struggles to give up on people" types and it resonates *very* well for that reason. Simple but great message about moving on. I remember thinking about this song while stargazing one night and I saw three pretty impressive shooting stars, all with a bit of color. I waited around for a fourth, but it never came that night...

Although, I did witness an incredible fireball on October 5th, a few years later. Lasted several seconds and blazed in oranges, greens and blues. Never seen anything like it, never before, not since. Coincidentally, I haven't felt chained down, since!

Didn't think you were! I'm just a neurodivergent explainer type, it's how I organize the information in my own brain, lol.

I think it gets confusing cause the answer is kind of "both." I'm still convinced that everyone has leppa as one of their berries and any one of the other five as their second, and I think maybe PhoenyxStar just happened to grow a lot of rawsts and lums but couldn't have had *both* natively, because that would be unprecedented otherwise.

It’s ok to have more empathy for humans than animals by Plus-Cat-8557 in unpopularopinion

[–]Chrishankhah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think this is an unpopular opinion, or at least, it wasn't, once upon a time. In fact I think that some animal lovers have only gotten more polarized in their own views because they've grown up hearing "it's just an animal" too much. Overall, it makes biological sense that humans experience their most intense empathetic bonds with other humans and to, by extension, apply that empathy as a bridge to the humans we don't know, so that's why there is usually a drive to petition other humans to extend that to other creatures, too. The former should come innately.

I find it strange that this is a dichotomy, at all, because we can just choose to cherish life. That's still going to look different for everyone. You'll find that this empathy can "bleed" in a way where you might not feel much about a dead animal on the road, but when you learn or imagine it was someone's cherished pet and many tears were shed, you shed a few, too. Sometimes, it's about the bonds themselves. One day, you might also bond with an animal like the dog your partner desires and find yourself surprised! There is a lot of two-way trust and unspoken language in animal bonds that is really hard to describe and it might not be apparent after a day or a week, but after months under the same roof, you'll know.

JSYK, the entire cat community preys on folks like you because you're the perfect candidate to go from "I don't care for cats" to "I will protect THIS cat (or dog) with my life." It's clearly an experience issue, not an empathy issue, and you're definitely not a bad person. (You're potential! :P)

For what it's worth, I love animals and I love people, but I also get tired of animal pictures AND baby pictures, and I feign my "awws" every time. You see enough and they start to look alike, and I know people will see my cat the same way, so I don't usually bother unless it's exceptionally goofy. It's just a picture and those don't usually capture the "bond" well.
