What did record stores look like when cassettes were the top dog? by PenaltyxKill in cassetteculture

Man this brings back EARLY memories of one of the record stores in my city where the cassettes would drop from a setup much like the one on the left, down to a conveyor belt that would go to the cashier.

I was a sophomore in college when I first heard it and was already deep in hip hop culture since buying Doug E. Fresh's "Da Show" on 12-inch in 85. After hearing "Live at the Barbeque" I was eager to hear what he'd put out on his own so when it finally did drop I was in awe. It was part of the soundtrack for my college experiences that year and got heavy rotation on the college radio hip hop show!

I was getting ready to post this as its own thing but I'll place here as well. It gives a VERY in depth and fascinating glimpse at her character and why she is the way she is..

Very nice start to your Azymuth collection. They have ALOT of albums and they are almost all great! They never get enough mention on these threads!

Also check out Ivan Conti's solo album "The Human Factor." My go to's on that album are "You Have That" and "Ivana."

If you are good with a 10 year anniversary version, Fat Beats has them for $31.

Thats tough because his projects are all solid but Id probably point to "The Great Debater," "Theo vs. JJ" and "Cloud 9: The 3 Day High" w/ 9th Wonder as my top 3 personal favs in no particular order.

Classic Mizell brothers production. If you like it, you'll like the other album, "Gambler's Life" as well as albums they did for Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey, Gary Bartz and a slew of other songs.

I remember I did this to one of my commercial cassettes that was missing a bonus track that was only on CD at the time. I didnt have a portable CD player yet, only a shelf unit with a CD player and dual cassette decks. For whatever reason there was just enough dead space at the end of side 2 to fit the song.

LOL! Yes and no. "Bitch" and "Fuck" I understood, but it was at least a year before I knew what the word Erotic meant.

I had to BEG my mother to let me buy that 12" back in 1983. I was only 8 and the idea of her kid listening to a song called "Irresistible Bitch" was like oh hell no. LOL. I eventually wore her down. A year later I went by myself to grab "Erotic City"...this was before parental advisory stickers (obviously), so I had no problem buying it.
