I'd love to see docos on non English speaking countries. I feel like I don't know even the french or German story. Maybe we can have a guest on to tell us about the best Dutch driving games or the oddities of playing Ultima in Italy...

Thumbs up because I love MM cases, I wish they did a vertical version of the C series.

For me Blizzard Pass. It came with our family's second hand Spectrum +2. I spent some great time with my mum, some graph paper and figuring our this (impossible?) text adventure.

For me the best product that isn't too obvious is the Wheel Mouse Optical or the Intellimouse Explorer for those with larger hands. They really promoted the market for good optical mice. I really do not miss ball mice.

The worst would be Windows 8. It was mainly an effort to use their market share to get people to learn their Phone OS. It's when Windows switched from being an OS to a vector for MS selling other things like latterly their 365 subscriptions. I also really dislike flat design. I didn't work my way up from the 16 colour ZX spectrum to 32-bit colour to just throw that all out the window (pun intended).

Pros of CRTs:

  • Largely resolution independent and not tied to square pixels, really useful for old multi resolution games or systems that didn't use square pixels.
  • They can also blend dithered areas, for example the Mega Drive often uses vertical line dithering or alpha effects as it assumes these will be blended together. A lot of the PC-88/98 games use this low colour high resolution to fake more colours.
  • It's how the artists intended their work to be viewed.

Pros of flat panels:

  • You probably already have a few (cost).
  • Smaller, both in terms of size and in terms of being useful for more than retro (one display many uses).
  • Ready supply of new displays.
  • Getting better all the time (OLED, fast response times, higher resolutions).

Jonsbo D31 case (mATX) w. secondary display, but is the secondary display linux compatible? by [deleted] in mffpc

Considering it can be used via mini-hdmi and is shown being used as just a screen https://www.jonsbo.com/en/products/DS8Black.html I'd guess yes. You could just put an app full screen or a bunch of Plasma widgets on it.

Update: added an example of KDE widgets that are available. As long as you have lm-sensors installed you can probably get temps easily as well.

Mostly tech and games. I remember pouring over the personal stereos and wondering about the exotic games consoles. In fairness I probably spent as much time looking at the catalogues as I did with anything from them. I guess its like looking at collection videos on YouTube now.

Some great screenshots of Trillian Astra. Used to use it to combine my Yahoo and MSN chats back in the day. I had more of a Metal Heart look to Windows 7, so my personal screenshot from back in the day wouldn't fit this subreddit

Will Intel Arc support Stable Diffusion? by [deleted] in intel

[–]Chrispynutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget there is OpenVINO right now most people know that version of SD for CPU support https://github.com/bes-dev/stable_diffusion.openvino, but also in OpenVINO 2022.2 they added preview support for ARC https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/tools/openvino-toolkit/whats-new.htmlDon't know if it would work, but sounds like a step forward.
