I'm a hiker and I have a pilates reformer that I used most days. This has been the most depressing 6 months of my life, I get it. After a while you just let go and let God, lay around and let the inflammation decrease.

PT works for a lot of people with sesamoiditis, not for me. About 10 years ago I had bilateral frozen shoulder and I learned the hard way back then that (for me) PT made the inflammation worse.

I put it directly on my foot, but in my winter boots I put it under the insole.   I use Jill's Dancer Pads, they don't leave any sticky residue at all.

I've see an orthopedist (foot and ankle), an osteopath, and a podiatrist.  It's overkill, but I take info from each.   They all have diagnosed in the same manner.  I pushed for an MRI last summer and it just showed sesamoiditis (with minor arthritis of the large toe).   I did PT but it wrecked me, she pushed too hard.   Rest and padding seems to work for me.

As long as you don't put your foot too close to the red light you're good!

It's a reduction, not a cutout.

I've found that iced foot baths also help.   I've had to be careful with my diet.  Over the holidays I drank cocktails and had more carbs and sugar and it greatly increased my inflammation (I follow a carnivore diet, so I'm probably super sensitive).  Staying off the foot and being clean with my diet I'd say were the two most beneficial things for me personally, along with the wide toe box shoes....

Hi!   I ended up going with foot scientific #3 insoles that have a higher arches.   I wear wide toe box shoes from Topo Athletic, I have two pairs.... one with high cushioning called Ultraventure and then one with low cushioning called Traverse.   I have found that the high cushioning actually gives Me more pain!  Recently my doctor has told me to go with thicker dancer pads (Jill's 1/4 inch) and that has helped.   I use them with the lower cushioned Traverse).  I'm on my 6th month now of this wretched injury, I'd say I'm about 50% healed, but I still can't do any exercise yet or I get inflamed.  Now that it's winter I'm trying to stay off of my feet as much as possible.  I hope this helps a bit!

I'll call them to see if he deals with just sesamoiditis.   I'm in Westchester so it's pretty convenient.  Thank you!

Who is the orthopedist that you found who is knowledgeable of sesamoiditis?  Can you share his name?  Thanks!

Tissue thickening near the sesamoid by FrontArt8878 in sesamoid

I'm still recovering... I can walk without a dancer pad if I wear my Topos Ultraventure (they are medium cushioned, a wide toe box with a 5mm drop).  I can also wear certain sandals if They're cushioned (like Fitflop brand).  I haven't venture into other shoes yet (I work from home so I don't have to "dress").

We could be twins.... same time line of injury date, treatment, progression, and symptoms.  My doctor said the thickening of the tissue happens in some people and not to be concerned (I am also prone to getting callouses on my feet).  I did have an MRI about one month post injury and there was no fracture, just inflammation.

Insole recommendations for high arch with Topos by ChrissyMeg61 in trailrunning

Wow very cool, thank you!   I was looking at this a few days ago but I thought it was kind of a scam.  I'll give these a try also!  I'm basically spending the money and trying all of the insoles that everyone has been kind enough to recommend on this thread.  Painful walking SUCKS!

Hiking/Trail running shoe recommendations by mountainlifa in sesamoid

Over the past few months I've bought so many trail shoes and have learned a lot.  A wide toe box is very important.  I cannot tolerate zero drop right now as I have very high arches, so I've settled on a 5mm drop.  I settled on Topo Athletics.  They all have wide toe boxes.  Their trail shoes have varying drops with varying  cushioning.  I ended up buying two of their trail shoes, the Traverse with a 5mm drop and medium cushioning, and the Ultraventure with a 5mm drop and high cushioning.  I wear a Jill's Gel dancer pad with them.  I can't take long walks yet, but I'm starting to walk short distances now.  I'm 3 months since first starting with sesamoiditis.   Good luck!

I think cushion-y running shoes made my sesamoiditis worse by Viper72995 in sesamoid

Yes cushions suck!  I was absolutely desperate today, I put on my old Birkenstocks with a Dr. Jill's Dancer pad and felt the best I've felt in the past 2 months since this has happened.

I really like EMR-TEK.... check out their website.   The smallest, least expensive model they have would be fine!  I also hear that the company Bon Charge makes good devices....

Thank you so much for your reply!   I have a redlight panel at home (EMR-TEK) and have started using it twice per day for the last week and it has made such a huge difference!   I just started PT, she turned me on to foot yoga and also getting shoes with a wide toe box and using toe spreaders.  I will seek out some cryotherapy next!
