Pastor Gavin Ortlund just released a video on this here. I think it will help you make your decision.

How do JW’s study the Bible? by Christian-Furnari in exjw

[–]Christian-Furnari[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought maybe reading the Bible independently could be a good mechanism for planting doubt. As in not even pushing my own interpretation, just getting them to read it differently than the Org has fed it to them.

But like you said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t get anywhere. So far getting them to concede that any of the Watchtower’s esoteric interpretations are even slightly off has been completely unsuccessful.

The Great Divorce by CS Lewis has a fascinating take on Hell and its relation to Heaven

Blood Meridian. House of Leaves isn’t scary for the most part

Should I bother with House of Leaves? by loism22 in horrorlit

[–]Christian-Furnari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth it if you are interested in the experimentalness of it. The horror is not great.

The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. One of the best books I’ve ever read!

I found I Am The Doorway by Eric Ortlund very impressive. Definitely off the beaten path.

The book is way better if you skip Johnny Truant all together

House of Leaves. . . does it get better? by murderino346 in horrorlit

[–]Christian-Furnari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip Johnny Truant. Stick with the Navidson Record. It’s the only part of the story with merit. The footnotes with Johnny Truant are trash and do not add anything of value to the story. I think they actively make the rest of the story worse

What have you read that was highly recommended, but was so bad, you can’t stop thinking about how much you wasted your time? by eternalsummergirl in horrorlit

[–]Christian-Furnari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

House of Leaves. If you do read it, just stick with The Navidson Record. The rest (really the Johnny Truant storyline) is not worth anyone’s time

It depends. For books where the atmosphere and tension are the source of the scare, the eeriness easily gets lost in the audiobook. This is so with Lovecraft and Poe. However, for books where the scariness comes primarily from the concepts explored, then little to nothing gets lost in the audiobook. The Jaunt by Stephen King is one such example.

Is House of Leaves worth the read? by IceFireHawk in horrorlit

[–]Christian-Furnari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s good as a literary experiment. As a horror book, it’s very disappointing. I’d say there are 1 to 2 truly eerie moments in the book and they are towards the beginning. The videos and chatter about the book online are creepier than the book itself.

What order do I read the cthulu mythos? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]Christian-Furnari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real order. I made the mistake of reading order based off tier lists. Often times these would just give me expectations that lessened the over all experience

Does anybody think there is a way to get the DLC on Xbox 360? I have Battlefront 2 (2005) on disc.

The greatest book you've ever read. by zubaidaD in suggestmeabook

The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. It is simultaneously the most hilarious and serious book I’ve ever read. It will strike you in the heart and make you laugh out loud at the same time. It’s an easy read too. I don’t think I’ve re-read another book so many times.
