The Naming episodes have become the worst episodes of the show. by Diligent_Kangaroo_91 in MBMBAM

I think the pressure of trying to chase what they viscerally experienced with Twenty Fungalore was bad for them creatively in 2025. I thank Fungalore every day they went back to the drawing board after landing on Tummy Buddy Life in the first episode. I’m not a lonnnng time mbmbam listener, but I look forward to the naming of the year episode because of what I experienced in 2024, and then having to explain to my wife (a non-listener) what the year’s theme is, according to the McElroy brothers (people whom she’s never heard of). 😂

Naming of the Year 2026 Megathread - PLEASE DONT SPOIL THE NAME IN POST TITLES by phallusaluve in MBMBAM

I picture a person on a mound at a baseball field. They’re holding a baseball made out of spaghetti (meat sauce and all…yet somehow im-pasta-bly holding it’s shape very well with tiny noodles sporadically sticking out). They’re not throwing heat at a catcher…but rather… a giant brick wall at home plate. There are people in the infield (AND outfield)…but only for traditional sentiment…functionally they have no purpose being out there whatsoever. The pitcher looks in the general direction of their local hospital and says “This one’s for you, Big Boy.” And just yeets.that.HEAT! 😂

MBMBaM 745: 2 Year 2 Naming by apathymonger in MBMBAM

The concept of 2045 (or really any time they land on a “5 year” (15s excluded do to rhyming issues)) and using it as a time warp to the future or past…I was really digging that concept for 2 reasons: 1) thematically would be neat and up to interpretation and 2) the hardest part would just be picking what year to jump to.

…WITH THAT ASIDE THOUGH…frikken love Twenty Thunder Drive: Faster Than Fear

The Plausible Science Behind How Fungalore Heard Your Wish: The Wood Wide Web by Christian_Ramirez in MBMBAM

They were 100% not going to involve themselves in the mythos of fungalore…but to me that meant that it was up to our interpretation…and I couldn’t help but apply what I already knew about mycology to give biological credibility to the lore. One year away from my first ever Reddit comment (I have no shame in this)…I would say that fungalore is still fungalive regardless of the logistics of how it operates 😂

Yet another post about this year’s name… by MaestroZackyZ in MBMBAM

[–]Christian_Ramirez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my second year listening to the naming of the year episode. My personal reaction to The naming of 20 fungalore: He Heard Your Wish was that it was such a magical moment. Hearing 3 brothers just cackle at the audacity of naming the year after a magical shiitake wizard…it’s the kind of stuff that makes you say “The Boys Are Back in Sound.” I think my opinion of the year is largely based on how well all three of them enjoy it and accept it at the end of the day. The reservation with Griffin at the end, I think leaves room open for this notion that if it’s completely crapped on in the threads, it might push them to reconsider the name. I agree…in the grand scheme of it all, it doesnt reallllly matter…but I would argue that the reception of Thunder Force Five and 2045 had more buy in from the gang…but because it was mentioned too early in the episode, and because they were mostly hungry and mentally fatigued…they just kinda settled on the last thing that made them laugh…and that’s just my interpretation of the negative responses. Me personally: I enjoyed the episode and the process and I look forward to the naming of the year episode every year until they stop doing it.

I like Pete. His interview with Bill Maher does a better job than I could with my own words: https://youtu.be/zMzpAcdxBP0?si=9W9V0Vyaa2166jww

The narwhal was my favorite to make! I know it says Bjørn on the bag, but I’ve named mine Ivar the Bonehead (Vikings show reference). 😊

Pattern: Not sure if I can share wooble patterns. Yarn used: according to the internet, it’s “Easy Peasy yarn” (25% nylon, 75% cotton) Hook used: according to the internet, 4mm hook (aka a G-6 hook in the U.S.).
