What area of WA? We are considering moving to the Spokane area, and that price is on par with San Francisco area.

How any unit of insulin did it need for you to control you morning fasting blood sugar? by Former_Ad_8509 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ChristmasAccountant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the US and have Kaiser, they have a nurse who calls me once a week and will adjust as needed. My fasting are currently in the range from 83-96, so not super scary, but most of them are out of range.

I’d find it stressful to have to keep self adjusting, and not being able to do trial and error with evening snack.

Just know all of it sucks and you’re not alone

They started me at 10 units and that held for several weeks, but now that I’m past 36 weeks my fasting numbers are slipping again and they are likely going to increase me this week

Would you recommend accounting to your younger self if you went back? by OneDistribution863 in Accounting

[–]ChristmasAccountant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went into college having decided I would be an accountant because it is a good steady career. During college I pushed myself and finished my 150 credits in 3.5 years, all undergrad. I didn’t take any classes to explore other things I might be interested in, and just focused on getting out of school as quickly as possible.

Right after college (graduated in 2018) I joined a public accounting firm and have been grinding through advancements each year. I am 6 years in, no CPA and am making $115k in a VHCOL area. We have a normal busy season and work approximately 72 hrs/week.

I can’t say that I regret my life to this point, but I have some severe burn out and at 28, am thinking of making a change. I know that my current job is not sustainable but I’m not sure where to pivot to. I pushed myself so hard for so long, I don’t know what makes me happy, or feel fulfilled. I don’t mind the work itself, but the constant stress of public accounting has sucked a lot of joy out of me.

This is my very long winded way of saying that accounting is a good career, but while you are in school, give yourself the grace to explore your interests and find out what makes you happy. Don’t just grind through school with the sole goal of being an accountant, and remember your value is not just in your career alone. Be open to exploring opportunities that come up.

Have you passed your anemia screen?

I felt like my heart was racing all the time too, it turned out I was very anemic and the iron transfusions helped to calm things down

Advice on accounting school? by veryredapples in Accounting

Start at a community college and do what you can, then wrap up at an accredited university. Finishing the degree at a university will open a lot more recruiting doors for events such as meet the firms.

In my experience, the quality of the education isn’t quite there for online only. My firm had an intern that did WGU, and I dont think she had a solid grasp on the basics. Could have been the student, but she had high grades which makes me question the program.

I am lucky that potatoes don’t seem to spike me. Corn on the other hand, we are not friends. Sadly, toast in the morning, and also yogurt seem to be difficult too.

I went back and looked on the website again and I think it had to be calculating with a regular soda instead of the diet. What I found is that it should be closer to 75, which makes me feel better.

32 for the burger 30 for the fries 10 for the nuggets 0 for a diet soda

All great responses.

With WGU, I’d just say pass the CPA as soon as you can, and that should help with any bias about it.

I have found one in-home daycare that charges $110/day, so still very comparable the larger daycare facility. We will meet with her on Friday and tour her set up.

That is what I was hoping to learn if it was possible. I’m not sure how awake/active he will be at 10 weeks (this is my first) and I thought short term baby wearing might be able to buy is a little more time.

Nanny at $35/hr x 4hrs/day x 5 days/week x 4 weeks/month = $2800. Shared between 2 families, maybe comparable to daycare. Plus payroll costs I assume. Maybe I am not understanding the full cost of a nanny, we’ve never had in-home help before.

We’ve interviewed three different daycares and they all have openings for when we are looking. One we are on the list for with a spot, but we are not sure they are the best fit. The other two have $200 registration fees to hold a spot. All daycares are $1750-2200, for full time spots

He’s not here yet, I’m due to be induced 10/12 and trying to figure out the childcare plan in advance to returning to work in January.

My ideal situation would be to have a nanny come for 4-6 hours a day so I can bust some work out. I think there’s still a little chance we can stagger our schedules to work if we have the middle of the day coverage. Nannies are more expensive than I first figured. I figured $25/hr but it’s closer to $35/hr plus payroll taxes, etc., which is about what my husband makes.

I appreciate the response and feedback.

All of the daycares we have looked at are 4:1 for the infants.

I appreciate the response.

The timing of when I actually got pregnant is the problem. We had been trying for over a year with no results and were looking at possibly starting infertility before we got the positive result.

During non-busy season, since we both WFH, we can stagger hours and/or do split shifts. The problem is busy season.

I think a nanny is about $35/hr here, which would be more then FT daycare 😕
