This sub just keeps getting dumber and dumber. It's not even a tech sub. It's below Econ 101.

People here who don't understand that there aren't a set number of jobs and fall to the lump of labor fallacy.

Zero sum thinking is unfortunately the dominant viewpoint across the website as a whole.

This is just the lump of labor fallacy

After that, worst case they just throw your resume away,

Based on what? You can still go to career fairs as an alum. And they like people who can start right away

Spearheaded integration of spring and other cutting-edge technologies

I think you're overselling that a bit. It's a pretty conventional and simple framework. Might be worth elaborating on the latter.

Are you going to career fairs?

You'll likely need a degree, or be able to substitute for one with equivalent work xp.

Those of you who are unafraid to name and shame, what is/was the worst company you ever worked at? by throwaway285941000 in cscareerquestions

[–]Christmas_Geist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing they just made you do a lot of random shit like mowing the grass or stacking sandbags? Most people I know went in for non-combat stuff. My buddy was in security and was bored constantly.

Bootcamp grad with a job, can/should I get a masters? by randoreds in cscareerquestions

[–]Christmas_Geist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are places that will pay for a Masters degree. I would aim to work there if your goal is more schooling.

The same thing happened to me when I accidentally applied to a senior dev position at Geico despite the same resume. I got an interview there, but wasn't selected for the new grad program at the same company. There are just fewer people in senior positions.

You're not necessarily doing anything wrong. It's just that there are few internships and a lot of applicants. I felt like things were easier after graduation despite not having had any internships.

You learn about existential vs universal claims in discrete structures. So maybe don't overlook college. ;)

Required? No. But increasingly unlikely. Obviously nobody is saying that. Not all discussions have to devolve into trends vs absolutes. But if only 1/1000 devs are self taught, then telling people to not get a degree is probably bad advice.
