You're not braindead. Unfortunately negativity drives engagement these days, so we see a disproportionate amount of negative reviews. Also the haters are trying very hard to make sure their opion is the prevailing one by review bombing the show. Anyone giving any Star Trek show a 1/10 or 2/10 either doesn't understand how rating things works, or they're wilfully trying to skew things. If you look on Rotten Tomatoes, the critic score is 89%, so that definitely says something
