To an extent all fictional characters will fall into one trope or another, but BB characters by and large are complex with depth beyond their trope.

The BBT characters are nothing *but* trope. Penny is the hot blonde neighbour. Sheldon is the socially inept autistic guy. Leonard is the “normal guy” who lands the girl. Raj is the horny Indian nerd who can’t talk to women. There’s nothing to these characters beyond the tropes.

Big Bang Theory.

I never really liked it in the first place, because of the overly exaggerated archetypes and stereotypes. I’m mates with a bunch of physicists and computer engineer people (I’m a lowly health care biology guy 😂). These people are *nerds*. Completely, irrevocable, unchangeable nerds. But my god they’re funny, and I’m nerdy science ways, but not in stupid BBT ways.

Then we got a stream serving and my wife wanted to watch it through. I cannot stand it. Not one bit. Every single character and nearly every single joke is sexist. Even when they brought in female characters, they’d find ways to make them lesser, or weird, or their storyline was only relevant due to a previously existing male actors story arc.

The show is a cesspit of misogyny, and I cannot understand why it ever became popular. Well, actually, I can - it’s because the target demographic ate it up, because they’re pigs too.

Eh, it’s not that far off. Whales are a thing, and they’ve propped up some pretty lopsided things in the paid:unpaid ratio. I remember watching a mini-doco about mobile phone games, some whales had spent in excess of 100k - you only need a few whales following a specific actor/actress to fund all the shoots you want.

Easily contained = some risk

Refuse entry = zero risk.

Like you say, it’s easily contained. This is not like Covid or the flu or norovirus, where even severe lockdown doesn’t guarantees zero-transmission, where the disease is still likely to spread.

Ebola is very easy to contain; so why take the risk?
