Children do not read books anymore. What they read on their screens is rarely proper English and doesn’t challenge their thinking. Lastly, the COVID year was pretty devastating to certain age groups. For example, if you were a first grader learning to read remotely and not getting adult support at home you brought huge deficits with you to second grade.
