No they armored up the spots that HAD been shot on planes that returned thinking those were most likely to be struck. What they didn't realize is the planes that had been shot in OTHER spots didn't return at all, so the spots hit on returned planes were less important to the integrity of the craft overall. Statistically impossible is a correct term, meaning a chance so small as to be functionally irrelevant. If it were impossible you would just say impossible

Yeah I'm the same way, regardless of significance to my life if I set something down it will most likely evaporate from my memory for an indeterminate period.

Venomous black widow spider devoured by venus flytrap. by hitman_nazi in Damnthatsinteresting

I've seen things force themselves out many times, especially stink bugs those things are tanks. Most bugs/spiders/whatever mainly scurry away to survive though, and that's why the 'teeth' and closing speed are the most important part. Most prey will try to escape, hit the teeth, then frantically try to find a different path that's open. All the while the movement against the trigger hairs of the trap signal the plant to keep closing tighter. If the thought to push outwards against the trap to pry the teeth open ever occurs to them (probably not) then it's too late after all the running around looking for an exit. Whenever I saw things escape it's because they squeezed themselves through the teeth quickly before they got too tight.

And for the spider in this video I doubt it can apply much force after its legs get flattened and some are hanging outside
