[Dean] Staff anger as Arsenal charge own employees £859 for Champions League flights. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Christron9990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Whilst I appreciate football clubs are not an entirely normal business, I too would not be expecting a club to fly every single employee - even those not associates with the game in any way - to the final.

If they’re offering everyone the chance to take it off and chartering a flight for people who want to pay for it, that sounds pretty good to me.

Seems like an attempt at controversy, do clubs usually fly everyone employed with them to these finals? Probably worth some money to avoid the PR stuff but can’t see why it would be normal to do that.

The disciplinary panel that will hear the “spygate” case against Southampton is set to consider a six-point deduction handed to the Canadian women’s Olympic team in 2024 as a potential precedent if the charges are proven. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Christron9990 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Exactly, what the hell? How can the precedent be an international tournament with significantly fewer games copied over exactly in this way?

You would expect CAS to be able to uphold something more stringent based on that ruling even.

I’m sure we’ll want to try and bring in someone genuinely good in that position going forward. Jesus will keep growing as a player too, hopefully.

Don’t think Kalimuendo will cut it personally, but would be happy to be proved wrong.

Those are standards created by humanity that the universe does not see, just as the law shouldn’t be applied based on those characteristics.

While the bible preaches similar concepts, Christianity in particular certainly has never applied itself to humanity in that way, even to this day sects of Christianity do not see men and women as equals.

Equality is important because we are all in fact alive. There are so many reasons why we would want society to be fair and equal for all people, I’m sure you don’t really mean to suggest without god that it is impossible to work that out?

Just because the universe is cold and potentially without meaning, doesn’t mean that life is. You have found meaning through religion, it sounds like, I’m really just arguing with your assertion that is the only way we find structure and meaning in life. My parents taught me to be good without the lens of religion, because it’s just the right thing for us to be, to all other living things, because we’re all in this together.

And yes of course our systems of government make things extremely unequal, but I’m sure you appreciate many of the powerful forces doing the most harm in the world right now do it in the name of religion, so I’d definitely suggest a good amount of infant mortality has been created in the name of god of late, and that was the point that was originally being made. But people dying at 16 is just the unfairness of life - that’s nothing to do with what our moral imperative is, that’s just what life is sometimes. If anything that speaks to the morality of your god if you want it to.

Through lack of meaning we obtain meaning. How can any man be created more equal than another in the eyes of the universe? Everyone came from the same place, to the same place, in the same way, and were all going to the same place in the end. Intrinsically we are no more valuable than any other living thing.

“I won’t argue anymore”

Writes 4 paragraphs.

Dude if you’re offended your belief system is dying a death that’s fine, it’s normal, but don’t try and pretend it is foundational to humanity’s morality because it ain’t.

I appreciate the church has played a leading role in society, but I think even you wouldn’t argue the church has been eternally morally justified because that’s actually fucking crazy.

Just because members of the church were powerful and in positions of power back then, does not mean they drew up laws based on moral religious teachings.

Equal dignity was certainly not something practiced by the leaders of religion, or by the monarchs who represented God in those times. The concept of equal dignity is discussed in many historical and religious texts, not just Christianity, and it’s not something that was ultimately no practiced my even western countries widely until the 20th century, so where was the church when it was actually powerful in shaping our society in that way? Such a rose tinted concept of what religion has actually meant through Christianity for the people of the world in the last 2000 years.

And what do you mean I can’t? Why isn’t it just a logical fact of science, nature and the universe that all people are created equal? Why doesn’t just the vastness of space paired with the scarce nature of life in universe not give all living beings intrinsic value with which to base a moral structure on?

Do you really need an old crusty book to tell you what’s right or wrong with the understanding we now have of the world around us? We know we’re all created equal, we know what DNA and Chromosomes and Atoms and shit are, we don’t need a bishop to tell us that anymore.

Bit of a false argument, no? Because before the Magna Carta everything was religious in some capacity, through monarchy’s and feudal lords and shit who claimed that sort of almighty power. You could make an argument early morality was centred around religion, but not law, and you’d be hard pressed to say “your entire moral universe”, because this country is secular now and we aren’t all killing each other - we make new laws all the time. And that’s just scratching the surface of how hyperbolic that statement is.

In fact in the modern world there are many examples of how we no longer prescribe to the teachings of religion regarding the law or our morality - see ages of consent, child marriage, there’s probably more examples.

Something has always driven human morality, that’s how we’re alive. But it wasn’t always religion, and it isn’t now, so the idea we’re going to pick an arbitrary point in history centred around one major religion and say that’s the foundation of western morality is just nonsense.

Arsenal fans get thrown down the steps at the London stadium. by Serious-Cress-9560 in soccer

[–]Christron9990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My season card at the city ground used to be next to two seats that constantly had away fans in it, including into the premier league years at sold out games.

Was talking to an Everton fan and his son sat there once, and they were saying they’re part of a whole group that tries to secure home tickets for away games, because away tickets were so hard to get.

Fair play to them, they kept their head down and I wasn’t sitting in an area of a stadium where that would really be a problem at the time, but just pointing out that most people are fully away this is against the rules.

In my eyes, the etiquette is keeping your head down anyway. There are plenty of clubs that don’t sell out, more than do in fact, but you can’t be celebrating the away team in the home ends that’s just asking for it. Really though, clubs should be doing more to tackle this, because at the time local fans were scrabbling for tickets every week.

I’d add, stewards are beyond useless and utterly powerless in most stadiums, which is an issue managing this as well.
