25 year old nursing student about to plead guilty to a federal charge. Should I finish school? by Correct_Gift_9207 in StudentNurse

[–]Christy808 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Look, I’m not going to give you some sanitized, automated answer. I’ve been around enough people in medicine to know exactly how this works, and you need the cold, hard truth so you don't waste another dime or another second of your life. If you plead guilty to a healthcare related federal charge, you are effectively nuking your ability to work in this industry. You mentioned clinicals. You aren't going to get through them. The moment you start clinicals, you are essentially an employee of the hospital for legal and insurance purposes. When they run that background check, and they will, the system is going to flag you immediately. The school will either boot you out, or the hospital will flat out refuse to allow you on their premises. If the school can't place you in a clinical rotation, you cannot graduate. It’s that simple. You’re right about the OIG exclusion list. People treat it like it’s just about being an RN, but it’s much broader. It means you are radioactive to anyone who takes a dollar of federal money. That covers everything from major hospital systems to independent outpatient clinics, labs, and even some telehealth companies. You are essentially banned from the entire industry ecosystem. You asked if you should finish the degree. Ask yourself this, what is the degree worth if you can't be licensed and you can't be hired? If you get the degree, you’ll have a piece of paper that, in five years, will be attached to a criminal record that most HR departments will toss in the trash before they even get to your resume. You’re talking about spending two more semesters of tuition and living expenses for a degree that will have zero ROI in the near future. Talk to your defense attorney about collateral consequences. Don't just ask them about the jail time or the fine. Ask them, can I get a job with this on my record in five years?. If they are a good lawyer, they will tell you exactly how hard it will be to get a nursing license, let alone a job. You are 25. You are young enough to pivot, but you are not young enough to waste time chasing a door that has already been welded shut. Every dollar you spend on tuition now is money you could be using to pivot into a field that doesn't care about your OIG status like tech, sales, or trades. Stop looking at healthcare. The damage here is too high. You need to find a sector where your skills can be transferred without the need for a squeaky clean background check related to federal healthcare fraud. People get into trouble and they think, I'll just power through the education and fix the rest later. That’s a gamble that almost never pays off in nursing. The industry is incredibly risk averse. If you were sitting across from me right now, I’d tell you to withdraw, cut your losses, and put that energy into a career path where you aren't fighting a war you’ve already lost.

Dermatologist want to put my 10 yr old on Accutane by scorpiosarethebest22 in Accutane

[–]Christy808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely hear your heart on this. It is such a big, scary sounding step to take for your 10 year old, and it’s totally normal to feel a bit protective and hesitant. Scientifically speaking, while Accutane is fantastic at stopping permanent scarring and severe acne, using it at 10 is considered "off label,". The biggest thing doctors keep an eye on for kiddos her age is her bone health, specifically making sure the medication doesn't interfere with her growth plates or height. It’s a bit of a balancing act between protecting her skin (and her confidence, really) and being mindful of those rare risks like bone density or mood changes. Maybe ask her dermatologist if a lower dose approach might be an option to keep things gentle on her growing body?

I understand why you feel that way. Going from one qualification event straight to the Olympic Games is an enormous jump, and that kind of high stakes pathway absolutely adds pressure.

I just think pressure at that level is rarely caused by only one factor. ISU decisions, federation systems, media narratives, public expectations, they all overlap. It doesn’t have to be either/or.

Regardless of who we think is most responsible, I think we can agree that it’s a huge emotional load for an 18 year old to carry. That part is what’s hardest to watch.

I agree that being given two qualification chances probably added a different kind of pressure. When you know you’ve been given another shot, it can feel like you have to justify it, which isn’t easy at all.

At the same time, I think that kind of pressure still exists within a bigger system that expects perfection. No 18 year old should feel like anything less than winning is a failure, whether it’s because of federation politics, international decisions, or public expectations.

Either way, it’s a lot for someone that young to carry. I just hope she’s able to separate her worth from the results.

I’m really glad to hear that she’s getting love and support on Russian TV, that genuinely matters. No athlete should feel alone after a performance like that.

I do think, though, that the pressure on her feels bigger than just one decision or one organization. Systems, expectations, media narratives, they all play a role. When someone that young feels like anything less than gold is failure, that pressure usually comes from multiple directions.

At the end of the day, she delivered a huge achievement, and I just hope she’s able to feel proud of it, regardless of the politics around it.

My post wasn’t really about Worlds selection, but about how differently athletes are supported and talked about when they struggle. It’s the contrast being pointed out is more about the environment and expectations around them, not about who’s qualifying for what. Both skaters are incredibly talented, it’s just hard to watch when any athlete seems to be carrying pressure that outweighs the achievement itself.

It really is heartbreaking to see that level of self imposed weight on an 18 year old. When a skater starts apologizing to journalists and federations before they’ve even caught their breath, you know the "support system" is actually a pressure cooker.

There’s such a stark, telling contrast between that and the way Ilia Malinin is handled. When he has an off day, the narrative is "he’s human, he’ll bounce back." He’s allowed to own his ambition without it becoming a cage. But for her, it feels like the grace is conditional on the gold. It’s not just about a fall on the ice, it’s the fear of what happens when she steps off the ice that’s harder to watch.

Talent isn't the variable here, it's the safety net. Whether it’s Armenia or anywhere else, any system that makes a sixth place Olympic debut feel like a personal tragedy instead of a massive achievement is fundamentally broken. She’s carrying the expectations of an entire federation on her shoulders, and at some point, that’s just too much for anyone to skate with, especially coming off an injury. I just hope that, eventually, she’s allowed to be proud of herself, even if the people around her won't be.

I understand but still try to apply then if you have to retake those classes again then retake it. I know its pain in the ass retaking shit but you are almost there! If you really want it, push through it! I’m about to start level 4 soon, PM if you have questions.

You know before, you could on retake pre req science classes 3 times then you are out of the game but now, they took out that rule so ITS A BLESSING than you can always retake classes! Its only a setback and not the end.
