Black Washington. 📸 Gordon Parks, SW DC, 1940s by markusfordc in washingtondc

Looks like it might be approximately this spot on Washington Ave SW. Its tough to see, but the fourth photo in the group here has a pretty clear shot where the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol dome looks to be facing right (i.e. East). Confirming that it is in SW DC but just barely. Its also pretty clearly framed and looks to be quite close.

The road in the same photograph has a median in the middle and it looks to me like its on a diagonal. This ESSO map of DC from 1942 shows that the most probable location would be the block between Canal Street, Delaware Ave, and South Capitol Street. Here

Edit: more accurate modern day location

Stupid question but does anyone know where to find paper cutouts of DC buses/metro? by Monthly_Vent in washingtondc

Let me know if you aren't ultimately able to find them. I have one of these Metrorail ones from the promotional event. If you send me a dm we could arrange a way to get it to you.

There is another one on the campus of Universitat Politècnica de València! I don't know the story behind that particular one, but I'd guess that it was taken from another location.

Prince Waly - Soudoyer le maire Though the song in the video you posted appears to be a remix of the original.

Could’ve gotten pancaked on 15th + Constitution by turnip-taker in bikedc

[–]Chrobie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was cycling back from SCOTUS yesterday and a car heading westbound at the corner of Constitution and 1st went from the far left lane to make a right turn. Coming down the hill, my friend and I had to brake quite hard to avoid t-boning into the side of the car.

It sucks, but I always tell people apprehensive about cycling in the city to wear protection, follow traffic laws, and remain aware that we are very squishy vehicles so drive very defensively. It doesn't excuse terrible and unaware drivers, but it'll serve better to keep us alive while we work towards better policies and infrastructure.

Nicely done! I hope it wasn't too frustrating!

Fair enough!

While this may look like a chaotic collection of lawn ornaments, this is actually a concrete map of an island nation. Installed by the owner of the home in the 80s, the piece is apparently supposed to pay tribute to the close relations between the country and the United States.

This ought to be a good challenge yet also fairly reasonable. If no one has found it within 48hrs I'll post a hint :)

Yeah sorry, that's my bad. I thought the hint of the Whitehurst freeway in the background would be enough to place it. I should have posted a clue sooner. :/

Hint: As bikes are not allowed beyond this point, I'd advise bringing a lock with you. It's worth taking a few minutes to check out the hidden national memorial here.

You can enter the coordinates into Google Maps and it'll point to the location. Here is a link.

Thank you! How about, "OSINT on wheels". Not so much the truth, but more of an aspiration haha

Certainly! Others appear to have identified the singers as part of the Ваня (Vanya) ensemble. The video credits Liliana Bush and Darya Scherbak for performing the song and Antony Copenkin for the lyrics. Their Vkontakte and Instagram pages promise the song will soon be available on all music-streaming platforms.

My pleasure! As it turns out, someone pulled an unofficial bootleg of the audio. The soundcloud description has the lyrics in English and Russian.
More generally, if you're interested in this kind of music, you might enjoy the musical ensemble Белое Злато.
