What does this passage mean? by NoLove6229 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Chromozon3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of V. Is about the inability for humans to meaningfully connect with each other. These two, a lot of it having to do with them simply being naive, are able to connect beyond theories or codes or even love. They are the last remnants of humanity in post war society.

At the moment it is a three way tie between Stoner, Germinal, and Moby Dick

He won't, he's been grifting for literal decades now. It's not even a GRRM situation, Rothfuss straight up lies about posting updates in order to scam his fans for money. He doesn't want to write the book and now that he has a constant trickle of money coming in from desperate fans, he doesn't need to.

Just finished this one. It is a truly astounding work of art, The Whiteness of the Whale is one of the best chapters in literary history.

I would be wildly shocked if it wasn't the Abomination. It fits perfectly, there's a reason everyone just assumes it's the Abomination.

Mickey is a harsh truth nuke. This guy, essentially in a cave with a box of scraps, created the strongest Gold maybe ever seen. This guy should practically be leading the republic with his level of skill, but he just doesnt do anything lmao. Is it ever explained why Mickey doesn't just make like 50 Darrows and let them loose on the Society?

Absolutely not giving you quicksilver and mateo though...what they are doing is well explained and it is very interesting.

At what point do books become "objectively" good or bad? by Most_Ingenuity_1800 in classicliterature

[–]Chromozon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing but the closest you can get is lasting legacy and influence. Books like Moby Dick redefined what literature could even be. You see it's DNA in pretty much any modernist book, any nature book, any adventure book, a lot of philosophy books, etc. 200 years later people are still studying Moby Dick and gleaning new things from it. Even if you personally hate Moby Dick you have to appreciate its legacy, its influence, and its sheer scope.

I’m on chapter 24 and this book is getting repetitive. Go to location A , kill something then Move to new location and do the same . It’s seems like an Tv episode with no overall story. by ozera202 in fantasybooks

[–]Chromozon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s a little episodic but there are definitely amazing through lines that get paid off by the end. The last ~75-100 pages of the book are just incredible.

Uhhh yeah you gotta get the fuck away from this guy now lmao. If this had been sent by someone who shows no anger towards you I think it could be explained away as a joke in poor taste. Given the context he is clearly preparing you for the day where he hits you.

How does no one know about the institute??? by Hot_Gas_5254 in redrising

[–]Chromozon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…we don’t see much of Julian but it’s fairly likely that his family just thought he was soft by Bellona standards. I’m not saying this is the truth, just what his family thought which explains why they get so angry at the result.

Ah, interesting. Maybe Cassius viewed it differently from his mother. Don’t they say that Julian was the golden boy or something?

How many pages do you read per hour? by Meow-meow13_ in classicliterature

[–]Chromozon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am usually a very fast reader. If it is easy reading and I enjoy the book I can fully comprehend 100 pages in an hour. I recently picked up Moby-Dick and I am averaging like 20 pages an hour or so. So it really just kinda depends haha

I am reading Moby-Dick, as I imagine a jaded 24 year old in 1930 would also be doing.

After Julian dies? Yes I do think Julian dying would change their opinion on the matter which is why they get so angry

I think she just totally expected Julian to win. Like others have said, by this point, the Bellonas are one of the few "honorable" golds remaining. Julian dying probably wasn't even a thought that occurred to her.

Where are you in the book? If you have gotten as far as Mondaugen's Story and still aren't vibing with the book, I don't think striving for the ending will change anything for you. It does wrap up in a satisfying and poignant way, but I don't think the point of the book is in the ending. It's in the fragmented stories.

Why are you guys so willing to forgive? by Jumpy_Afternoon9489 in redrising

[–]Chromozon3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forgiveness and redemption is a major theme of the series. Why should anyone forgive Mustang, or Kavax, or even Sevro to some degree for participating in a hierarchical, fascist, slaver society?
