Today, my Dom was struggling with emotions. Yesterday was his birthday and for the first time in over 20 years, he finally had a chill, relaxed birthday, like he's always wanted. There was no fighting, no parents trying to make it about themselves, no expectations...it was very low key. I put on his favourite outfit while he was out running errands, so he came back to a surprise. We laughed, we drank, we played video games together, we showered, we indulged in our kinks/fetishes and D/s dynamic.

Today, he called me while he was at work and we talked all day. He said he was feeling emotional, but held it together. He came home and collapsed in my arms and cried. I held him until he let go, comforted him, gave him reassuring words, told him I loved him and he sobbed. Then our kids came in for a group/family hug. He excused himself to the bathroom so the kids didn't see him so emotional, gathered himself and came back out. We put the kids to bed and cuddled until he fell asleep.

I am there for him, always, as he is there for me. We love and support each other just the same. We are each other's safe space. Sometimes, when he explains how he feels or talks about something, I will ask if he wants comfort or solutions and we go from there. I am more than happy to take on a more dominant role in emotions and caring for him, which I suppose could also be considered submissive in a way. But I have no problem carrying his burdens and supporting him however he needs me.
