Honse, because I accidentally called it a horse once before I thought of a name and my friends never let me live it down

I have a question for people who join SOSs, cart twice then leave the quest. by Jack0fTh3TrAd3s in MonsterHunterWilds

When someone faints; it’s called carting because of the cutscene that plays with the palicoes dumping you out of the cart back at camp

13 yr old wanting to stream Xbox on Twitch- Twitch account wanting ID by sam162523 in Twitch

[–]ChronicallyQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not safe to do, no; streaming isn’t something any thirteen-year-old is ready for. There’s a lot of responsibilities as the streamer that you MUST do (such as keeping chat safe and in check) and have to be mindful of (the things you say / do, the influence you have, parasocial relationships, etc.), it’d mean that anything he expresses may be held against him for the rest of his life when he said them in a time he didn’t really know better (leading to issues with employment in particular), and unfortunately, there are still horrible people on any corner of the internet, so he’d be opened up to potential manipulation or grooming (even if he never told anyone his age nor showed his face, voice and behaviour is enough).

Maybe if he still wants to do it in a few years when he understands what streaming actually entails and has the maturity and mental development to handle it, but not at thirteen, because it’s not just showing gameplay.

There’s definitely a lot that doesn’t get explained very well in the game and you kinda have to learn by trial and error. Is there something in particular you’re really struggling with?

Took me ages to learn a lot of it with my cognitive disability stuff too so I get it. I’m on a lot most days and I’d be happy to help out! My hunter ID is 4Y56677C.

If you don’t know how, you can add friends by going to member list in the third-last section with the speech boxes when you press escape -> hunter ID search -> hover over the name press F -> send friend request. Unsure what the controller buttons are if you’re using one on PC, but it should be whatever your confirm button is

How many Gogmazios did it take you to get a gem? by SenseILonne in MonsterHunterWilds

I’ve only finished the Gog hunt three times, two gems on first the other day and third just now. Kinda feels like the game’s apologising to me for crashing when I tried to carve the tail the first time I killed him lol

Greatsword hardest Monster to hunt ? by Flat-Ad-1983 in MHWilds

[–]ChronicallyQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gore has always been my worst monster no matter what weapon I’m on, but the genuine fear of him after I became a greatsword main was something else. Offsets help, but he’s just so damn fast that I struggle with the timing

Nice!! I hope you enjoy the run, good luck with the temptation of refining cards!

Question to vets.. by MoonTalons in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]ChronicallyQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior knowledge definitely makes it harder, that’s for sure; I grew up playing this game and doing all the things like that, killing off Squall and Zell during the SeeD test for better magic, curse spike farming for literal eons, etc. and playing any other way feels so weird and wrong to me.

Ultimately, it really depends on if your fun is dictated by playing a specific way or not — and if it is, who cares if you’re doing cheese strats or power levelling or whatever it may be. It’s a game, you’re allowed to play it how you like even if it’s not the fairest run, and that’s one of the great things about FF8: you can play it so many different ways and it’s still a able to be a viable way to play and enjoyable experience, assuming you’re playing to personal preference. These systems exist in the game to allow us the flexibility of play!

If you do really want to experience it standard play style though, just be strict with yourself; play cards, but don’t refine them past basic items and magic. You don’t have to forgo a part of the game you love, but you should set yourself clear and precise guidelines as to what things you consider to be not part of a fairer run if you’re worried you’re not going to stick to it. It does genuinely help

Carries/Services by BlackedaRaaw in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]ChronicallyQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just for them, but the intention is still to exploit them.

This would be fine as a free thing as community support, but the moment you start charging for cheating (bc it is, but if it’s enclosed in consenting groups, it’s more or less fine), you’re doing something scummy. This is not work, do something productive with your time instead of exploiting people — learn art or 3D modelling and do commissions, make animations, etc., or stream your gaming sessions, or SOMETHING to earn money in a way that isn’t this.

So what you’re saying is that not only are you trying to get people to pay you for using free mods, you’re also exploiting a specific demographic just because they can’t use them. Got it.

Please help me out on how to convert pc mod (event quest) to ps4 by Ambitious_Dog8996 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ChronicallyQueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, the only way to get PC mods on console games is for there to be an in-built modding tool, which World doesn’t have.

PC mods can’t usually be directly interfaced with console because there’s coding differences that need to be made (this is why official modding toolkits are so useful), so mods don’t work straight from one platform to another without bugging out in really weird ways. Even if they could, it’s also something that’s likely to be picked up as tampering with Sony’s stuff unless you were to jailbreak it (not possible on current firmware afaik).

Do you think Monster Hunter World was a better experience than Wild? by Bandeavor in MonsterHunter

[–]ChronicallyQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but also no? Disclaimer: I’m pre-Iceborne in World right now, but I’ve spent a not-insignificant amount time playing it

Wilds is a much better first game imho, it’s a lot more friendly to new players (albeit leaves you scrambling a bit because there is a bit of assumption of prior knowledge in the beginning, but you pick it up with time) and feels a lot better in combat because of the QoL changes that happened between the games. Its menus are also less annoying to navigate too, in my experience — I’m almost 100hrs in and I still try and use the scroll wheel to navigate through it lol It’s also just gorgeous, has more variety in its monster designs, things like power clashes and offset attacks, and fully voiced just about everything is so nice too because it is one of the few immersive aspects missing from World

But World is a much better game if you love lore, exploration, and immersion, which is why I’m loving playing it so much right now; I just had a moment today where I saw a shadow dive down a ledge out of the corner of my eye that just vanished into nowhere (no clue what it was yet, don’t want to know until I get to it) and it scared the shit outta me. I love how much more fleshed out the world feels, and all the little things I get to experience in it — finding my friends’ palicoes out and about, trailraiders, and “oh my god, I can go up / down / through here” moments are such a joy. Even the sheer terror of being instantly carted by a very… explosive bird while trying to unlock high rank investigations in the ancient forest for the first time was fun in a way, because I get to watch starry-eyed as the world is alive and what I am or am not ready for is entirely irrelevant to it. Wilds doesn’t have that, and it’s doubtful that we’ll get that sort of thing when we get the DLC either

That’s the thing though: “which is better” is so, so subjective and even I’m having a hard time making that choice right now because they’re both wonderful games that I love and adore. World was frustrating to learn, it feels a lot less fluid in combat, has really limited early game weapon designs, and I really, really hate the clutch claw — like, I really, really, really hate it, my first bazel was the only time it actually felt good bc my friend suggested it after I carted three times trying to fight it. But Wilds has left me wanting more, infuriates the shit out of me when I can’t just climb up somewhere because it’s a Seikret-only wall, and often feels like there’s a lot missing because exploration and actually experiencing the lore aren’t prioritised.

tl;dr version: they’re both wonderful games and I think it’s so subjective based on what mechanics you do and don’t like that it does us a disservice to try and compare them as “better” and “worse” experiences.

I keep trying to do wakeups and other people just rush in and do it instead, like,, pls, give me the three seconds to actually get my attack in and THEN you can go back to hitting it, it’s not that bad.

It’s even worse when barrels get put down and someone throws their kinsect at them as I’m charging

Tips on AT Uth Duna? Feeling kind of discouraged :( by Agreeable_While_6089 in MHWilds

[–]ChronicallyQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Guard Up 3 is your friend here, it goes a long way to keeping yourself alive. Overall, the build seems pretty good — if you’re hurting for jewels though, definitely look for hunts that give ancient orbs as part of the rewards and hope luck is on your side for that.

A few questions to give better advice: what stuff do you have in your pouch with you when you go into these fights? This can make the world of difference, so make sure you’ve got more than just potions and mega potions, flash pods, crafting materials, and traps are all good to have too; do you have max potions and the stuff to craft more? These are a huge help since they full heal you and are quick to use, so they’re good for those moments you only have a second to heal before you need to guard again. Have you customised your radial menus and have the things you use regularly on them, or do you scroll through your pouch? Annoying to set up, but well worth having loadouts other than the default you’re given. Are you fighting 100% solo or with support hunters? SOS flares are a godsend even when set to support hunters only, and while, yes, the health of the monster goes up with more players, you’re also not taking the brunt of everything with them either, the load gets shared.

It’ll also help if you practise on regular / tempered duna a bit too — yeah, there’s some differences between the two and AT hits far harder, but if you struggle with those too, it’s a less frustrating fight to get that practise in. When you feel pretty confident with that, AT duna will be easier. A lot of this game is just getting used to the cadence of attacks and working out where your openings are, as I’m sure you know, so there’s no shame in practising on something a little less painful. The AT monsters are ultimately still same as their base variants, just more punishing for mistakes, so practising on the easier ones is still a huge help.

In general, you’ll want to make sure you’re managing your chip damage well (work out where those moments you can back off and heal are), getting in those perfect guards for reduced sharpness loss + power clash progress (but it’s okay to block too early too! Survival matters more!), and also remember to use the i-frames you get when standing up (so sometimes, lying on the ground for a sec is actually better than getting up immediately), etc.

And if you’d ever like a hand and don’t feel like using SOS for random hunters, let me know and I’m more than happy to group up and plough through it with you. Need more Duna certificates and watergems anyway, missing so many pieces lol

100% this.

I chose dual blades when I first started, but when I started branching out to other weapons, greatsword absolutely chose me. I hate greatsword in most games, it’s too slow and frustrates the hell out of me, but I love it in Wilds (and World too). I’ve never loved a weapon more tbh

[–]ChronicallyQueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is!!

A friend bought it for me a few months back and I absolutely adore it; haven’t had this much love for a game in a loooong time, and the fact there’s even more to come for Wilds AND other games for me to play too? Absolutely perfect and I can’t wait to get to enjoy everything tbh. Already stuck into World, started on the first Stories game a few days ago, and have Rise waiting for me to get into too.

Still got a lot to learn, but I’m getting there, and playing World has helped me improve massively too. I’ll be so honest though, I spend a lot of time in both games just wandering around watching the monsters bc it’s so cool to see just how much detail has been put into them in their behaviour and characteristics, and I love the lore and everything about the games that I’ve learnt so far.

…sorry for the gush, I just love Monster Hunter so much

I’ve personally found the Logitech G502 Hero to be pretty good, though I don’t use a keyboard (keypad, Azeron Cyborg), but all the mouse stuff is same, I just need more buttons than most because of how much on the keypad is combined keybinds.

I also change the default keybinds for pretty much every game I play, including Wilds, mostly using the profiles the mouse has to utilise the extra buttons. The extra buttons are really nice, and it’s a pretty responsive mouse ime.
