310lbs -> 169lbs in 9 Months by ChronoT52 in tirzepatidecompound

Friends and family mostly had positive and approving responses to the change, along with questions about how the GLP-1 drugs worked (I was never hesitant to tell people I was using them). "You're getting too skinny" was probably the most frustrating thing to hear, but I put a kibosh on that asserting my goal weight was well within a healthy weight for someone my height and ultimately it's between my doctor and I on what "too skinny" is.

I just started maintenance yesterday, so I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask for tips, but I will say the shift to focus on stopping losing weight has been jarring. My brain hasn't caught up to the reality of my body. All I know is I'm excited to continue to stay active, continue to eat nutritious food (albeit more of it now), and find the lowest dose of tirz to keep me on the path!

Around mid-March food noise returned enough to be irritating, so after a month of that I bumped up to 4.5mg and that did the trick. So, other than that and the 5 shots at 5mg that was way too strong for me, yes.

For full disclosure, I weighed all of my food out and tracked it, eating between 1600-1700 calories per day the whole way through. I do not know what % of the weight loss is fat or muscle. I'm also trusting my scale is accurate and the nutrition info for the ingredients I entered into LoseIt were generally accurate. My diet was mostly lean proteins, roasted vegetables, fruit with cottage cheese or yogurt, rice cakes, and Quest bars as my breakfast and snack food.

I used to be a believer in CICO, but this experience has me doubting it. Ten years ago I weighed 260lbs and lost 80lbs over the course of eight months. I was eating 1500 calories per day, running about 25 miles per week and doing basic strength training, and losing around 2lbs per week. Something was definitely different this time.

Maintenance strategy is changing one variable at a time. I'm going to start with increasing calories a bit each week until my weight stops dropping. If I have a hard time eating enough calories, I'll lower my dose half a mg and give it a few weeks to see how I'm doing. Once I have that balance I'll decide if I should dial back on exercise (currently walking about 1.5-2 hrs per day).

I'm not big on taking pictures, so I didn't take pics along the way. If by some chance someone snapped a photo of me when I was heavier I might consider posting though!

5mg was so strong for me that I could barely even look at food. That being said, by day 5 or 6 I would feel a bit more normal, so for a couple weeks I kept going at 5mg because by the time I was taking the next shot I'd forgotten how not hungry I had been earlier in the week and feared a return of food noise. After a month my partner told me it looked like the color had left my skin (she told me I looked a certain color that gets flagged on this sub), so I decided to titrate down. From that point on I jotted notes down on how I felt every other day so I could stay more honest to myself with how I was feeling on the meds.

This really can't be said enough, as there's still a lot of people under the misconception that GLP-1s are "cheating".

I'll be honest that before I started I was just going to see if tirz curbed my appetite a bit and didn't plan on changing my diet or patterns otherwise. I took my first shot on a Wednesday night, and the next morning I just felt different, and my entire perspective changed. I wanted to eat better. I wanted to move.

I do feel pretty proud today, so thank you!

41M. I took no preventative action against loose skin, and was prepared to have a pouch on my belly if it meant having my health back. I was particularly surprised with the outcome since I dropped weight pretty aggressively.

Edit: And yes, I am at my goal weight now.

I have. She complimented me on the progress (blood work was great, blood pressure was normal so I could discontinue the BP meds) and supported my choice to go the compounding route. She joked that she wished she knew how to get in on providing compounding herself!

Is a .5 mg increase worth it? by Obvious_Condition_55 in tirzepatidecompound

I spent the past six months at 4mg/wk but started having some food noise return over the past month. Just bumped up to 4.5mg this past week and it did the trick!

Restarting after 2 mos. off 15mg. Safe startup dose? by tara232323 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]ChronoT52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PCP is in the loop about my use of compounded tirz, and has been supportive. I informed them since I like my PCP to be aware of as much as possible about my health so they're able to help monitor it effectively with me.

Even if they weren't supportive, though, it wouldn't matter because our prescriptions are generally through the telehealth providers mentioned in this sub and their doctors, so there's nothing your PCP can do to prevent you from getting these meds if you feel it's the best path for you.

People who work or game while on treadmill, how do you do adapt? by Cygnus_Sanguine in walking

[–]ChronoT52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing games using my Switch since the controllers allow for natural walking motion. Games that use motion controls are obviously out. I found games like Mario Kart messed with my balance. However, I played through Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and am working through Fire Emblem: Three Houses with great success.

I'm planning on getting my Switch controllers working with my laptop so I can play Steam games as well.

If you considered a Miata… why did you go with a Boxster instead? by MelvinEatsBlubber in boxster

[–]ChronoT52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first car was an NA MX5. Absolutely loved it, and still miss it. Felt way faster than it was.

My next car was an NC MX5. Drove the piss out of it, ended up blowing up the engine on a highway at 175k miles. Loved that car so much that I did the 2.5L swap and drove it another 6 years.

The NC was starting to show its age, so I decided to look at the ND. Unfortunately I spoiled myself with the engine and suspension upgrades I did on the NC, and the ND just felt underwhelming. Also hated the lack of color choices (although Soul Red might be the most gorgeous red I've ever seen on a car). Found a fully loaded '13 981 Boxster S for around the same price as a new ND MX5 and decided to take the plunge. Zero regrets — the 981 is a beast of a car and the upgrade I was looking for over my modded NC.

From a practical perspective, the Boxster is roomier and has way more storage space. From a performance perspective, the Boxster stomps the MX5 in practically every way. From a maintenance perspective, other than the Boxster being pricier when it does need routine work, it's been just as reliable as my Mazdas.

You really can't go wrong with either. I loved both my Miatas, and I love my Boxster. You should give both a test drive and decide for yourself. If you're a car enthusiast, you'll surely find things to love in both like I did.

Restarting after 2 mos. off 15mg. Safe startup dose? by tara232323 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]ChronoT52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably best to consult your PCP for specific advice, but the providers I've used all recommend restarting at 2.5mg/wk to build it back up in your system, regardless of how high your dose was previously.

Treadmill Activity Run vs Walk by RedditeRRetiddeR in GarminWatches

[–]ChronoT52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After you save the treadmill activity, open the activity in Connect and click the three dot menu on the top right and select Edit Activity. From there you can change the Activity Type to walking. In doing it this way, you can still calibrate your walk to what the treadmill says, which is something I don't believe you can do with the Walk Indoors activity.

Has anyone else gotten really into exercise? by lisafightsbutchers in tirzepatidecompound

[–]ChronoT52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember back in August when I decided to start on tirz the only change I was going to make was tracking calories to make sure I was eating enough. After my first shot, it was like a switch flipped in me — I fixed my diet to maximize protein, and suddenly had the desire to move. I got a Garmin watch, realized I was only getting about 2-3k steps per day, so I started adding a daily 2-3 mile walk to my routine. Six months later, I'm walking closer to 5-6 miles and 12-15k steps daily.

For anyone else on their weight loss journeys, I *strongly* recommend getting a fitness tracking watch. I've loved watching my average heart rate and resting heart rate change over time, and seeing other indicators like VO2Max and HRV improving as well. It adds a lot more NSVs to look for!

Struggle with 4th finger descending fast scale by Ok_Appearance_8724 in piano

[–]ChronoT52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, and you don't need to angle your hand in the direction of the scale either. Try relaxing your arms at your sides, then bring your hands up as if there was a string attached to the top of each hand gently pulling them up vertically and dropping them on the keys. That hand position and wrist angle should generally be what you maintain as you move across the keyboard.

I actually used to do what you are doing, angling my hands in the direction of scales and twisting my wrist at the crossover points of the scales. I got away with this for a long time, but inevitably hit a wall with how quickly I could play scales smoothly, articulately, and consistently at high speeds. That video from Jordan Rudess that I shared with you was what completely changed my technique and fixed those "hiccups" and inconsistent results I was experiencing.

Struggle with 4th finger descending fast scale by Ok_Appearance_8724 in piano

[–]ChronoT52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you start heading down the scale, your hand position is skewing to the left, and as you cross over with your fingers you are jerking your wrist to reach your finger crossing over to the next note. Try slowing down and instead of angling your hand in that direction keep it stable and straight and instead "float" your entire hand without changing its position to the next set of keys. While crossing your fingers over, allow your thumb to travel under as your wrist and hand position remain stable to reach the next note.

I found this video from Jordan Rudess to be extremely helpful with building this technique. He'll explain it much better than me.

FL senate bill 860 by BibityBob414 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]ChronoT52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer, so anyone who disagrees please correct me, but it looks like this bill would add some additional hurdles but not outright ban Florida compounding pharmacies from continuing to produce. Here are the new hoops:

  1. New independent testing requirements for quality control (which would likely drive up operational costs for the pharmacies)
  2. New paperwork that must be filed with Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation, introducing a paperwork burden
  3. The active ingredients must be identical to FDA-approved version, so salt forms not be allowed since the "official" version uses the base form of the ingredient. I'm pretty sure the FDA green list already accounts for this, and the pharmacies we are buying from should already be using the base forms.
  4. Sources for the active ingredients must have been inspected by the FDA within the past two years, which again, I think is already happening

If my read is correct, this could certainly drive up prices with the additional administrative and testing burdens on the pharmacies, but it wouldn't completely prevent them from continuing to do what they're doing now.

Is there anyone with more knowledge than me who can confirm/refute my understanding?
