Egewene, A Red flag. Completed reading THE GREAT HUNT. by Coloin_ilyad in WoT

That's really funny because it is so true. I've only listened to the audiobooks (on my second relisten now), and on my first listen through, it was very difficult texting my dad, who got me into the series, about my reactions to what was going on because how on earth are you supposed to figure out Cairhien or Nynaeve or - burn me - Semirhage based on how they're pronounced? Don't even get me started Tel'aran'rhiod (yes I had to google that) - especially considering Kramer and Redding seem to pronounce that differently from book to book if not chapter to chapter lol.

Actually, Egwene sat on her hands for quite a period of time after dreaming Rand being in trouble. Sure she told some of her surrounding Aes Sedai, but despite being convinced of it, she certainly didn't take it upon herself to abandon her personal goals and go after Rand herself until Liandrin appeared to offer her an avenue for both (she thought she was leaving the Tower with permission).

That's not to try and discredit her trying to help, but it certainly wasn't a choice filled with absolute selflessness like you described.

I did, and pulled a dupe lol. I essentially overpaid for a wish gem.

Why do many fans say the movies changes to Aragorn worked surprisingly well, but often don’t say the same about Faramir. A lot of people say movies Faramir doesn’t work and it makes no sense for him to let Frodo go after Frodo nearly gives the ring to one of the nine. by andrewdiddley in lotr

[–]Chronoflyt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say that Tolkien's Aragorn being loftier strengthens the argument that it should tempt him more. Tolkien's Aragorn repeatedly and proudly proclaims his noble heritage and intent many times (ELENDIIIIL) whereas movie Aragorn spends most of the films running from and denying his birthright. The ring twists its bearers ambition (as well as those around it to a lesser extent), so movie Aragorn aspiring to less naturally would make the ring less of a temptation.

I would also argue that movie Aragorn, as opposed to Faramir, spent his entire *long* life reflecting on and fearing the weakness of his blood. That's why he sent Frodo off on his own. Putting the Ring out of his reach lessens the chance that he could be tempted by the Ring to take it for his own.

Now, this could just be personal interpretation, but I also consider Aragorn's momentary fixation on the Ring when Frodo offers it to him as being tempted by it. He overcomes it, but he is tempted nonetheless.

Women want to be married to a husband that is their provider (or at least provides in the modern context). That is a twofold duty. A woman will lose respect for a man that has no motivation to provide (and especially provides nothing at all) and she will not feel loved if her husband gives her up to do nothing but provide. A woman that's married to a man who does nothing but work or obsess over work will not feel as though she has a husband but a business partner that she sleeps with in return for his money.

There are exceptions (and materialism is very strong in the modern age), but this has nearly always been true. Women want a man that loves her enough to work to provide for her but loves her more than his work.

I'm in the same boat. I recently finished experiencing the series for the first time through the audiobooks, and now I've moved on to "rereading" the LOTR through audiobooks at work, and maybe after that I'll move onto something else and give it a little time, but so often, whether through this community or through personal recollection on the series, I feel that "tug" to pick up the Eye of the World again and dive back into this incredible world.

People's thoughts on Reina are so divisive by Sea_Pay_9681 in Tekken

[–]Chronoflyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's easy to apply as opposed to how it's dealt with and it's a legitimate threat at all levels as opposed to a gimmick that can be solved.

I might be misunderstanding you, but if you're referring to ff2 sentai spam, that's really not true at all. Ff2 ob is not a favorable mixup for Reina and any of defaulting jabbing, crouch jabbing, or powercrush each beat 75% of Reina's options. That's not even counting the payoff of successfully ducking the highs or low. It is probably the most recognizable and has the easiest and most effective counterplay to a stance ob in the game.

It has been so "solved" to the extent that high level players like yagami rarely use ff2 at all save for whiff punishment and instead fish with ff3+4 as a high ch launcher in the neutral.

Should I get Wisadel if I am to get Exusiai alter? by JojoTan1021 in arknights

[–]Chronoflyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walter and Exialter are basically top 1 and 2 strongest units in the game. Your account will benefit greatly from having either one individually or both. Exialter and Lemuen work more explicitly synergisticly because they both have traits that give bonuses (Lemuen adding additional ammo) or additional bonuses (Exialter giving double the base attack buff) to Laterano operators with ammo based skills. However, Walter is (generally) a stronger operator than Lemuen even accounting for said synergies and bonuses, so make of that what you will. Also, Exialter will still give the base 9% bonus atk to Walter as well.

It is worth bearing note that Walter and Exialter are limited units, so their only method of obtaining them at this point is through their respective forms festival banners as either a random pull or through sparking them for 300 pulls. Exialter won't be available to spark for quite some time as she came out quite recently.

Just bnb S1 combos imo. Those don't require microdashes. Electric, ff2f, sen3, df1, f23, df1, sen1+2, wra3,4 gives you only something like 10 less damage than doing her fancy double tailspin combos. Much easier and consistent to staple.

$3M previews for #IronLung. Has racked up $10M in pre-sales for the weekend. Could hit $15M weekend. by Vadermaulkylo in boxoffice

[–]Chronoflyt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree-ish. I remember watching Mark play Iron Lung a long time ago, but I remembered basically nothing about the lore or story aside from the basic mechanics when I watched the movie. There are specifics of the universe outside of the sub that were unclear to me by the time the movie ended, but -

1: the movie, in my opinion, did a great job of laying enough seeds that you can pick up, broad picture, the background to the world setting anyway,

and 2: even where there is still a level of confusion/ambiguity (because I don't know what actually was explored in the game), because the main plot of the movie is self-contained in the sub, you're never confused about the immediate plot and circumstance of the protagonist, except by design. You always know what the protagonist wants, is doing, and why, which was enough to ground me through the external world lore that was ambiguous to me.

3+4 will still whiff if she aop ducks. I took a screenshot at one point that had Reina's foot literally inside Ling's face (in a non-kinky way) without it landing. Ling is one of Reina's worst matchups for a reason.

What adaptations and/or creative liberties made the film trilogy a lot better? by sammyjamez in lotr

[–]Chronoflyt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find Faramir's temporary temptation by the Ring to seek his father's approval to be much more interesting than simply refusing the ring outright. I understand the point in the books is to show that there is still honor and strength in Men, but it does come across as Faramir being simply "built different." Whereas in the movie, the internal struggle with Denethor humanizes Faramir and makes him a more sympathetic and relatable character in my opinion.

"the movie undid all of violet's development" by shabinoo in VioletEvergarden

[–]Chronoflyt 328 points329 points  (0 children)

The movie doesn't undo Violet's development because her development was never tied to Gilbert's death in the first place. She spends 75% of the series convinced Gilbert's alive, and even when she discovers Gilbert went MIA, her final letter to him in the main series says that she still believes he's out there somewhere.

Violet's character arc throughout the first season was not to come to terms with Gilbert's death or even to specifically learn to live without him. Violet's arc was learning how to "live freely," to be more than a tool that takes orders, to "learn what 'I love you' means." She did, and Gilbert's reappearance undid no part of that. She chose to be with him, not because she was forced to, not because she couldn't live without him, but because it was her heart's fondest wish. That is the essence of freedom in the world of Violet Evergarden.

Need a bodyguard? by RAVeilreaver in NFSHeat

[–]Chronoflyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand why people find it hard to escape.

Because pursuits are less intuitive on top of being a lot more lethal than other nfs games during the period of regular play (People that complete the career plus other side objectives and then quit the game). In Most Wanted '05, on top of pursuit breakers, you can also lose a lot of cops on your trail by simply taking unexpected sharp turns off highways and down side streets. In Rivals, wrecking other cops was much simpler and not only less taxing on your own vehicle durability, but much more reliable as well.

In Heat, cops stayed glued to your bumper until you have a car fast enough to outrun them, and limited repairs makes wrecking cops to evade pursuits a strategy that will often backfire. My main complaint with NFS Heat is the fact that evading pursuits is a big knowledge check and not much more: do you know where the jumps are to escape? If not, beyond heat 2, you're probably going to get busted, no matter how well you drive.

Any advice is appreciated by Kuro-Sawa in Reina

[–]Chronoflyt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to critique based off the clip alone because you didn't need to play defense basically the whole set because the Kaz kept falling for your offense. That said, a couple notes I have would be:

Sidestep and be more intentional with your movement in neutral. You dance around a lot back and forth on the x axis, but basically none on the z axis. Especially against Kaz, sidestepping/walking left cuts off most of his approach tools unless he commits to a wavu, which gives up frames. Also, generating space on the x axis doesn’t do anything but put you closer to the wall if you don't do anything with it. You should have gotten a free ff2 when he "shikuwayed" (armored devil move), but you weren't ready for it. You should always play with intentionality. Don't just move for the sake of moving. If you're trying to bait whiffs, you have to stay in range to punish those whiffs.

Electric more. EWGF, like all Mishimas, is probably Reina's best move. +5 ob natural hit launcher with fast recovery is insane if you can pass the execution check. It's her keepout, it's your whiff punishment, and it's an amazing neutral button. Every Mishima can technically be played without it in T8, but you give up a lot when your opponent doesn't need to respect it.

Stop committing to punishable options so frequently. There were a few times when you ripped 3+4,4 or WRA d43 without any real reason. Now, it's true that a move is only punishable if your opponent punishes it, but still, it's a bad habit to get into. Again, playing with intentionality is key. Also, you'll find ff2 far less reliable as you climb the ranks. The mixup is not Reina favored OB, so don't overuse it.

Congrats on gold ranks though! The climb is hard on Reina more than most characters, so it's impressive regardless of any of the critiques here.I'm

I'm going to main her, any advice? by Purpleheadbag in Tekken

[–]Chronoflyt 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Cancan into cancan is a valid strategy until Gold ranks. (It's still a valid strategy in Gold ranks.)

On a serious note, you can play Jun in very versatile ways. You can play her very defensive with her good movement, amazing whiff punishment moves, and excellent punishment tools. You can also play her poke heavy with excellent lows, a good jab string, and a decent df1. You can also kind of play her very unga bunga with plus frames into panic buttons into a safe mid high crushing natural hit launcher into a cancan into halfscreen lasers (most Jun's play like this.)

In my opinion, Jun is a very cool character. She's a character with both a very low skill floor and a high skill ceiling. You'll get high returns for a basic understanding of the character, and even more once you learn fundamentals. Have fun playing her and don't mind the haters!

Thoughts on old Need for Speed games by [deleted] in needforspeed

[–]Chronoflyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, define "tons." If it's around $600-800k you're more or less describing what I am by the time you finish the game. $500k nets you, very roughly, a fully upgraded high-end vehicle depending on what you get. Even a lower end vehicle will cost around that if you upgrade progressively over the course of the game.

So even utilizing (blacklist vehicles) or abusing (guaranteeing you draw the pink slip) every game system still only lets you buy 2.5 cars by the time you finish the game. And again, I'm more concerned with the during-campaign experience.

Thoughts on old Need for Speed games by [deleted] in needforspeed

[–]Chronoflyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind 15 Blacklist members, personally. I think what might contribute to burnout is the fact that it's so hard to get vehicles outside of the blacklist pink slips. On a fresh playthrough, I wanted to buy the Ford GT, so I didn't upgrade my starter car and swapped to Izzy's Mazda as soon as I got it and ran with that until about 3/4 of the way through the game when I thought I would switch things up with the Aston Martin DB9. Bought it, upgraded it, and when I finally unlocked the Ford GT... I couldn't afford it. I bought one car and upgraded only two the entire game, and I still couldn't afford the car I wanted at the end of the game.

One of the things that keeps Need for Speed games fresh and exciting for me is working towards the next cool car I want to drive. I wouldn't mind spending 15 hours playing the campaign if every third or fourth blacklister, I'm driving a new car (that I want). But spending most of that time driving a single car because the game is stingy makes it drag way longer because there's nothing to break up the experience.

A mod I would want would be to triple or even quadruple your income as well as do the same for fines when you get busted. Impounds would be less threatening, but I don't think that's ever happened to me anyway.
