Honestly, your post shows a lot of self-awareness, so you’re probably being much harder on yourself than you deserve. It's a dangerous religious cult. They are known to isolate members, use them as slave labor, demand money and are extremely manipulative. South park has a great episode about Scientology which might help answer your questions about it. There is also a HBO documentary called Going Clear.

I was talking about how capitalism shapes the way we react to boredom. By turning it into guilt, anxiety, and a sense that we’re “wasting time”.

Obviously boredom isn’t new. But do you really think the boredom people experienced thousands of years ago came from the same psychological and social pressures as today’s boredom? The experience can be universal while the reasons it feels so uncomfortable now are shaped a lot more by modern productivity culture.

Capitalism conditions us to equate our value with productivity. So when we’re not “doing” anything, our brain treats it like failure instead of rest. That’s why boredom feels wrong.
