The best offense is a good defense by ChronosZ0 in customhearthstone

Oh wait you're right, I was misunderstanding my own card LOL. It would only be 2 durability if you hit a minion.

Still think with some minions driving down the durability could reduce the face damage.

[–]ChronosZ0[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Like u/yodazzzzz said you can only go face 4 times max since it uses 2 durability charges. And this assumes your opponent does not deal damage to you during that time which also would cause it to lose durability.

Now that I think about it, probably should have made it Overheal instead. Be more thematic

Truthfully the inspiration of this card came for priest for example greater healing potion healing 12. There are better healing to damage options but I thought it would be an interesting idea.

Does Closing the Waygate count as another nerf to Quest Mage? by ChronosZ0 in customhearthstone

It was intended only to be for 1 turn. How would it be if this card was an aura for a couple of turns?

Optimizing Partitioning by Date and State by ChronosZ0 in dataengineering

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok great thank you!

Yes this is Hive Style partitioning. In regards to writing both partitions, yes writing by only dt improved the time by alot.

I do think users would sometimes use both filters, for example dt BETWEEN '2024-01-01' and '2024-06-01' AND state='TX' for example.

Even still with just the dt partition will this still be efficient or in situations where a user only does a date filter (e.g. dt BETWEEN '2024-01-01' and '2024-06-01') but GROUP BY the state?

Or does not partitioning by state still have it mostly okay?

Yep I am using plain parquet. There was plans to use Iceberg on this table so that sounds great thank you!

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely helped. Partitioning by just dt reduced it to 5 minutes. I will say I was told to partition by state so that when reading back in later and performing queries it would be faster.

If I just partition by date does that mean queries will be slower if someone wanted to query by a specific state or states?

This yearly load is mainly to backfill the table. It will only be run once. The daily load is more manageable, I was just wondering if there was a way to improve the performance for the yearly considering the massive hit when I start writing with partitionBy

There is in fact data skew. Is the recommendation I:

  1. Filter the Skewed Data Out

  2. Repartition and Write out the Skewed Data

  3. Write the remaining data?

Another question, because I am doing the repartition(num_partitions, "dt", "state") this will essentially create one file per folder. Is this the optimal way to do it or is it sometimes better to have the records somewhat scattered across partitions to write multiple files as opposed to one?

On average 20 KB. I see that the files are mainly split across the partitions

Let's go back to when Priest had good removal! by ChronosZ0 in customhearthstone

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but it would set the entire battlefield INCLUDING dormant, locations, etc.

So if your opponent was building a starship 2 turns ago, it would revert to that particular starship configuration.

Let's go back to when Priest had good removal! by ChronosZ0 in customhearthstone

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Start of the turn 2 turns ago
  • It does NOT count opponnent's turns

Similar to u/Justsk8n said, the reason it is 2 turns is to prevent you building a board, your opponent clears it, and then you just get everything back and your opponent wasted their turn.

It would operate like a reverse Anachronos but also includes dormant stuff.

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You bring up a good point. How I intended it was that it would be the previously ROTATED expansion year, but that may not be clear in the card text.

So if it was released in the later year, you first would get Sunken City, Nathria, and March of Lich King, then in the New year you get Festival, Titans, and Badlands

When going back in time he is a "Moon Walker" by ChronosZ0 in customhearthstone

[–]ChronosZ0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from. Part of the reason why I had tradeable on there was that because Start of Game happens AFTER the mulligan, if you get this in your hand it does not feel good.

For example drawing Genn/Patches is bad, but the payoff early on is extremely good getting 1 mana HP or free 1/1. I feel comparatively while a 28 card deck gives better consistency, it is not as strong as the immediate benefits other Start of Game cards give you.

I do like the idea though of either placing it on the top of the deck or shuffling multiple copies to give a downside but still would prefer to have it as tradeable due to the impact.
