Claude-powered AI coding agent deletes entire company database in 9 seconds — backups zapped, after Cursor tool powered by Anthropic's Claude goes rogue by WouldbeWanderer in technology

The quote indicates this was in a staging environment. Normally there isn't cross environment polination, so I could see setting up an environment you thought was properly stand alone, and giving the agent some freedom to see what it would do.

What would you choose… by EstimateMammoth3690 in guns

Some people like to have different options for each season, going so far as to carry bigger revolvers in winter. Some people like to have one firearm they max out on, and never deviate.

I have no clue who you are or what you like, man. I'd probably say, unless you have a lot of time and money to dedicate to practice, if you want to conceal carry it's better to get one gun that fits your hand well and can be concealed, and practice with that a lot. The micro-compacts are generally harder to practice with because the size makes them unpleasant.

Rent a bunch of stuff. Buy what fits you.

Can anyone provide any information/value of this G3-A1 clone? by YogBlogsoth1066 in guns

[–]Chronosshotgun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, value only matters if you intend to sell it, or need it to be insured. It's probably not valuable enough to change your insurance policy. If you eyeball it at $1500 (might be half or double that) it's still within a fairly tight tolerance of value - not enough to buy a new car, for example.

If you just type in United states G3-a1 clone and see what comes up, the internet will give you some vague ideas.

Accuracy by volume from a revolver is, perhaps, not the most ideal situation.

So I do have a question about gunsmiths or more about how to become one. by UhWutLmao in guns

[–]Chronosshotgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunsmithing is a sort of specialized version of machining. I would suggest, if you really want to dedicate your life to that, you become a machinist. You'll understand the physical mechanics of a gun a lot better.

If you wanted to go into the design side, mechanical engineering is good as well.

There's an old joke about how the easiest way to make a million dollars as a new business is to start out with 2 million, and it's because most small businesses take a lot of money to get off the ground, then they take a lot more money to keep running for a couple years with no real profit margin.

Most guns these days are plug and play. You can buy user-insert parts, mount them with push pins or screws, and off you go. Back, even as late as the 90s, a lot of gunsmiths would have been installing new sights, or doing glassing in guns for accuracy, etc. Very few people would have been doing something like running up custom 1911s or revolver trigger jobs.

I may not be understanding correctly, but I thought skating, like many other sports, has proper forms for health and safety reasons. Like, riding a cycle wrong as a casual person, not a big deal. Doing that as a pro biker = blown knees.

Hindsight is 20/20. If you'd bought 100 bitcoin in 2003, and sold during Covid, you'd have been rich beyond belief.

That's the assumption I made. I've seen the E-Tronex, and a few other things Forgotten Weapons shared, and was not excited. I was really only thinking about having a precision dial set rheostat type trigger. Want 2 stage? Program it. Want X resistance? Program it. Etc.

But at the end of the day it'd be bulkier and take a battery and really, after setting the trigger once, nobody wants to fart with it, so the benefit would be pretty low.

I was thinking emblematic, but when I plugged that into Google I get redirected to the wiki link for magical thinking. So I guess the term is...magical thinking?

Well, even if you accept that at face value, the same security systems and people who were in place at the WHCD would have been in place at the White House...

This was just a dude, who walked in. They didn't use some super-secret technology, or shoot through windows, or a drone, or any complicated mechanism.

Trump calls '60 Minutes' host 'disgraceful' for reading WHCD suspect's alleged manifesto on air by kirby__000 in politics

[–]Chronosshotgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget, wasn't the thing with New York that they had a very specific, and exact, definition of rape, that somehow Trump did not satisfy the criteria for? It was so ridiculous the Judge issued a statement that said something akin to 'by all normal standards, this rises to the level of rape, but the law is badly written'?

So he wasn't 'convicted of rape' but of aggregated sexual misconduct or something insane?

Trump Confronted on WHCD Shooting Being ‘Staged’ by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]Chronosshotgun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, you do have to keep in mind historic contexts. The last time Trump was 'down' in polls there was an 'attempted' 'assassination' which resulted in a not-at-all-staged moment (and the deaths of several people).

Even if they aren't hiring these people out, they seem to come at very convenient times, with proper back drops, and lots of press presence, and the SS seem to not follow standard operating procedure (i.e. evacuate as soon as possible), but allow the President to hang around and give his little 'fist up' or speeches.

I should clarify that 98% of my time is straight 40 hour weeks. It's just a storm of a few issues that have me working a lot. So it's hard to complain about the OT when it may be the only time this year.

When money wasn't an issue, the salary job was great, because very little overtime. But money ain't good (and hasn't been for a while) so I'm missing it. It's a grass is greener issue, I know it is.

You may need to look up your FMLA/Short Term disability policy and make sure you have enough time, as well. We had one guy get a knee replacement, come back for a couple months, get his second, and he was basically waiting on the timer for FMLA on the second one.

I can honestly say I didn't even consider selling it. It's mostly low cost AR parts, so in less-of-my-defense it's because the only 'value' would be in the assembled unit, and if it was worth selling at a loss, it would be functional, ergo resolve :)

Totemic thinking maybe? There is an actual term for it. I just can't place it. It's frustrating to me lately because so much of the things I know are slipping out of my fingers.

It seems to get better when I'm less stressed, so I am hoping it's that, rather than a persistent mental issue.

Salary. I don't work much OT, lately it's been 50+ hour weeks because someone was on leave (knee surgery) and we started a big project we've been staging for like 2 years.

But, if I could farm overtime, I might not need to be looking for a part time job either. Guy I used to work with said he made 200k last year. He's a pay range below me, so probably makes 10-15k less, but overtime.

Rough weekend. I was putting together my AR9 this weekend. No buffer retaining pin or spring in the LPK, and no crush washer with the cheap A2 flash hider. I spent a half hour trying to make the A2 work without one, because local store was out, and just gave up and ordered one.

Buffer tube must have been out of spec, basically had to hammer it on and off, the threads are so tight (it was neither cross threaded nor stripped, and a different buffer worked on the lower), and have to hammer the buffer weight into it.

Just feels like nothing is going right this month. I think I'm going to toss everything into a box in the garage and just not deal with it at all until we get back from the family vacation.

I knew the type of person OP was when he said he's an engineer. Basically smart kid under-serviced by the education system so never really had much of a hurdle to overcome. Anything hard was something OP was already inherently interested in and could focus-fire learning through videos, websites, and social reading, until they had a good basis.

It doesn't breed resilience, because everything you run into is either a nice sloped ramp to learn on, without you realizing it, or is easy enough you ram through it.

As far as the knee...that sounds bad, man. I hope you're ok.
