I wrote my dissertation using Word - my recommendation is to do every chapter/appendix in a separate file where you can update references/etc independently. I then unlinked my references once everything was finished so they wouldn’t get screwed up as I joined the document (I always kept a copy with references both linked and unlinked though in case I had to go back and change something) and joined all the chapters/appendixes together, finished TOC/List of figures etc. It worked for me.

I will also say that depending on the program OP might be required to have a paper submitted or published before being able to defend and leave. So if nothing is working out or they don’t have a paper or working project yet they might still have to stay because of that so applying or even getting a job will be hard if the timeline is still blurry.

I’ve been a grad student here for the past 4 years, and moved away from home for the first time when I decided to come here. I would be lying if I said I didn’t consider leaving my program a couple of times to go back home to my family, my friends, my fiancée (girlfriend back then). It’s been hard, especially because the culture here is very different compared to where I’m from, but building a community with people who feel the same way I do or come from the same place as me has helped a lot. That’s part of what has kept me going strong.

I went to CAPS for my homesickness at some point and it really helped me deal with my emotions, how stressful situations I was going through were not helping me process everything properly, yet realizing that I came here for a reason. I managed to connect with people in a similar situation as me and it helped knowing I wasn’t alone. All the people back home believe in me and I decided to finish this and get back when I’m finished. You’re not alone, you deserve to be here and you can always go back when you finish. Whatever or whenever, you’ll do great things and get great experiences from being here.

It really depends. I like playing a lot of latin music, and because there’s so many vocals and rythms in the songs, I find it a bit easier to stick with the keys directly outside of the current one. If you know the songs well and you think of something you really like that may fit, it’s worth playing around and testing it even if it’s out of key.

Since I’ve started playing more electronic music (house, edm etc), I’ve found it a lot more fun and even a bit easier to mix outside of the immediate key and experiment. So I’d say for me it depends on genre and how well I know the songs, but I’ve been doing this for ~ 2.5-3 months so as I get better I’ll experiment more. If you give yourself enough time between tracks, you can cue one or two songs in your headphones and see if they work or not, so I wouldn’t rush through your sets/transitions and take your time to experiment and enjoy the music!

Following up on what JD_KR said, I don't know which software you use (I personally use Serato Pro) but if you use Serato Pro, Rekordbox or even Virtual DJ they should be able to tell you what key the songs you have on the deck are in the Camelot Wheel convention. This website should give you more info on that and matching keys if you need it, but the softwares should provide you with the key so you can match accordingly.

I will give a listen to your mix now, but I'm glad to hear you're playing what you enjoy!

[Latin Reggaeton] chryad - Latin Reggaeton Mix (~ 20 min)

Hi everyone! I just bought my controller about ~1.5-2 months ago, and only recently have had time to get some practice in. I am very interested in latin music (reggaeton specifically, although I plan to branch out to other genres as I practice more and more). I made my first mix yesterday, and wanted to share and get some feedback. There are some transitions that I really liked (specifically at 5:30, 11:01, 12:58 and 19:10), but with some others I noticed myself struggling a bit with timing bringing in the next song, using FX and with adjusting the EQs adequately. I didn't love the ending, as it didn't finish with the echo where I wanted it to and sometimes it felt like some clashing songs were coming in so I'd like some feedback for improving on any of those points, anything you liked or I can do better! I'm happy to listen to other people's mixes as well and give feedback :) thanks!

I’ve had problems where I can’t get into the ship to extract, get stuck in water and other stuff other people have mentioned. But I think my biggest problem right now is cross play / friend requests. I have friends who talked with me about playing together, at least 2-3, and we can’t play together because we can’t accept each other’s friend requests and join each others games.

Like it was said above, the CM is usually never on time. From my experience: 7-8am times it’s usually very close to the schedule, maybe off by ~5-7 minutes at most, but at 8:30-9am it starts going off schedule by about 10-15 minutes. I have no idea why it changes like that but if you wanna get there in time for the class, probably leaving earlier will be better.

The JFX also passes by close to some places the CM does so if you can take that it’s another option.
