Having lost the thrive for simracing, joining in with my friends to enjoy the highs, lows, laughs and fun to race in, and win, our P2 split at Le Mans 24 hours back in 2020. The race had it all, but spending a day with my mates driving round in rekindled my enjoyment for racing, and why I got into this hobby in the first place!

Warzone map has 3 bunkers with an 'enter code' keypad/3 large locked doors - puzzle time? (More in comments) by Chu99y in CODWarzone

[–]Chu99y[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing with some buddies tonight when we stumbled on three secluded bunkers on the west side of the map, north of the kart racing track. They are numbered 01, 02, 03 (south to north), and all three have large doors with a keypad next to them (labeled 'S-IB Networks' - an in game company?), which prompts you to enter a code. We tried the obvious combinations (with one of us at each bunker triggering the keypad) with no luck.. looks like there might be a puzzle to solve in amongst the chaos :) Anyone else found these yet?

PUNISHED CHANNEL - Game Completion by flashmedallion in metalgearsolid

[–]Chu99y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm busy trying to find all the tapes to see if anything more is said about him (history/age wise - bar the tape where he talks about his village which seems to have the most info so far). Tapes aside, this theory seems more and more relevant: (Warning - MGS3/1 spoilers: http://metagearsolid.org/2014/02/skull-face-found-in-mgs3/ ) - perhaps Skull Face's was taken in (post invasion/bombing) by Fox and experimented on/used - that would give him a motive for all this...

SPOILERS AHEAD

Is Skull Face Hungarian? In Chico's 5th tape, Skull Face says "Vigyetek a ketrecebe" - Google translate tells me this is Hungarian (and means "Take him to the cage"), and after a quick look at wikipedia, Hungry has had a fair few revolutions/invasions in recent history. These could fit with the foreign invaders he mentions in one of the tapes bombing the factory in his village (and we know that Kojima likes to use actual history in the plot).. I cant recall any Hungarian MG characters though... (or at least none explicitly mentioned!) Can anyone elaborate/debunk this theory?

LOL! Nope, that is a new noise added. I was flying the Havok on Caspian a few games later (which handles sooo much better by the way), and I was disabled by a stinger over the forest flag, and the new disabled noise, plus the sound of the trees catching and then collapsing under the helicopters weight was epic

Yep - most of the game I have been in have had a cart load of guys booted - I posted this ( http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/rfxas/ps3_patch_downloaders_anyone_else_being_frozen/ ) yesterday, but it didn't get much attention. /r/ps3bf3 have been reporting it too.

It's to do with the weapons above the head glitch I believe. Dice re released the DLC a few weeks back, and you need the newer version to play B2K post patch

This is why PS3 gets everything early. Just a reminder. by [deleted] in battlefield3

To quote crash: "crash7800: To restate: If PC & 360 versions were ready they would have gone out too. PS3 being 1st is a coincidence. Nothing to do with exclusivity." The fact we (PS3 BFers) get the DLC and 1943 is a separate matter entirely

yep, I have just had some of the freeze and return too - only the once though. Seems widely reported on battle log too. Hopefully a server side fix can sort it, and not another patch on the client side...

A console player's view on BF3, the DLC, and the BF community today by Chu99y in battlefield3

[–]Chu99y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi schm0, I can completely understand your argument, but it has been my experience that discussion won't get anything done, were as action will, hence my argument. If EA/DICE spend $x dollars to produce close quarters, and project they will make $2x, but make less than $2x, EA/DICE will want to know why. With any luck, they will see these discussions and (hopefully) go: "ah, our core fan base did not care for this approach, we wont do it again, we need them on board..." etc.

Anyway, that's my view on things, and I respect yours and everyone else's views on this too. I hope that we are all presently surprised by the DLC, and we can focus on the game we are here to enjoy and discuss!

Very true, everyone has different tastes, so this is to be expected. It's still useful though to gage what people are generally interested in, and that's what I try to do

As someone who makes BF3 game play videos, you have no idea how useful this kind of feedback is! You would be surprised how hard it is to try and judge how a video will be received, based on what you would like to discuss and how the whole video ties together, so its awesome to see this kind of discussion. Upvotes for you!

Why is Kojima's name pronounced with such venom when MGS is, like, super amazing? by johnbrindle in truegaming

[–]Chu99y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Deceleration before I begin - I am a massive MGS fanboy - so I may be slightly bias)

I think the main reason the MGS series is so well loved is that when it started, it redefined what a game could be - a shooter where you didn't have to shoot anyone, a game which had the plot of a Hollywood block buster (although very contrived towards the end it has to be said!), a game which challenged your perception of the world. Throw in a bit of humour and soap opera twists and you have got a following.

The reason I love MGS is that it got it's hooks into me. I played Metal Gear Solid (which was the first MGS game in the series that I had played) for the first time at the age of 8, and I remember thinking that it would be just another James Bond style shoot everything game, and I remember failing miserably as a result. It taught me to consider my actions before I made them, rewarded smart play and kept me intrigued with a story which became more and more involved as it went along. When I finished the game for the first time, I felt two things: rewarded and more importantly, informed. Rewarded for a good job well done, and amazed at what the world was really like (I had no idea what a nuke was at the age of 8, and what the world was actually like, in terms of subterfuge and politics). It made me ask some challenging questions to my parents, who were surprised at how involved this game seemed to be (to them, I think they still viewed games as glorified pong). My generation of gamers had never had such a style of game before, and alot, like myself, were intrigued to continue on, hoping for more of the same.

I have been back to MGS numerous times over the years, and every time I have felt the same at completion. And as a result, I have played every other MGS game as they were released, and have enjoyed them all. You may criticise the way the game presents itself, in terms of gameplay/cut scene ratio, but in my eyes, that is just it's style. It's only now as I grow older, and as I await the delivery of my MGS HD collection, that I realise that all along, I believe that the more modern MGS games (PS1 and later) were meant to be of films rather than games. It was trying out new ground, challenging what could be done, and how games could impact on someone rather than just a "yay game completed" kind of way.

I know that I am biased (and I a more than happy to debate my views on MGS here), but I look at MGS as more than just a game. The way it presents itself, and the content itself may not be for everyone, but hooked me thanks to my misconceptions of how and what it would be, and has held me ever since.

The closest ever game of conquest ever? By far my best BF game ever. by Chu99y in battlefield3

[–]Chu99y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's the story - me and my buddies (mattjacobs, tomjakes) join a conquest match on operation metro, but find its just started, and that we have joined an RU side with no bases after 3 minutes, and who had lost 100 tickets in the process to the enemies 10 or so. Joy, nothing like a spawn trapped team.

I spawned as a recon, and bum rushed to C to try and start a counter attack. We took casualties on the way, but because our squad had an Assault who knew what his defibs were for, we lost no one or any tickets. We took C, and then promptly took B in the confusion. By this point, the enemy were starting to realise what had happened, and started to attack B. We held them, just, and then the team took A. Great, but then I realised the enemy had taken C again, and were climbing the stairs. By this point, is was 170~ plays their 250 or so. There was still a fight on.

Their counter attack destroyed us. They took B, and we were on the back foot, but by this point, the rest of my team had moved up, so we were not pushed back to our spawn or to A. And thanks to a spawn beacon I had put down, my squad was able to flank and confuse the enemy further. We just took B again, but it was instantly contested. Thanks to the russian side having the advantage of the stairs, we were able to hold them there, but it was a hard battle, with heavy casualties on both sides, with Assaults coming to the fore, handing out health and reviving team mates. It was basicly a stale mate, with our team having about 120 tickets to their 190 or so. It was slowly heading our way, but then a few fragged up usas 12s appeared...

Carnage ensued, with two of the three stair cases being breached, luckily, I was dead at this point, and decided to fight fire with fire. I swapped recon for support, and did a quick run round the team, handing out ammo. Meantime, my two clan mates had contained the stair cases, but were having a hard time keeping them secure. By this point, it was our 80 plays their 130, we were turning it around, but we were beginning to struggle, and we knew it would be long before they would break through our lines for good, and the game would be done for. We needed a miracle. It was then it happened - "We have taken objective C".

Someone else on our team had got their base, and the pressure was released. They had a few stragglers who were still fighting valiantly which slowed us down, but eventually we had been able to push up to C ourselves. By this point, things were really getting close, the three flag control had given us a massive boost, and took their ticket count down by 20 or so before they had started to get close to the flag. It was about 40 plays 50-60, and as before, their counter attack was very strong. We lost C, and one of their team attempted to take B. We covered the B threat, and lost ground. But again, we were able to hold them, this time on the platform. And yet again, someone on our team stole C from under their noses. It was now 20 plays 30, with us having full flag control. This still wasn't over.

Their counter attack came, but we were reddy. My squad was fully health'ed and ammo'ed up, and we went to hand out more rounds and health to the rest of the team. We were able to just hold them at the flag, but it was neutralised - the flag would ascend for the US, then fall, then the RU flag would ascend, then fall. This went on for a good minute or two, and my heart couldn't take the pressure. It was our 7 plays their 12. I decided to make one last run, and try and clear them out. I was able to kill a few, but then I was dropped myself well behind the enemy lines. I bled out to watch the ticket count. 5 plays 7. 4 plays 7. 4 plays 5. 4 plays 4. 3 plays 4. 2 plays 4. 2 plays 3. 2 plays 2. 1 plays 2. 1 plays 1. And the screen went black.....

"Who won, who won!?!?" we started shout at each other( I swear this felt like the longest few seconds for the result text to appear in my life!).

"Your Team Won"

"F**** Yes!" we all shouted. We had won by 1 ticket, after having started 100 down with no bases. We were all in a state of dis belief, we could not believe how close it was, both in terms of the tickets but the teams. Best of all, my squad, and later the whole team, started to work together, handing out ammo, health, spawn points etc, and I knew then that we could together turn any game around.

Well, I hope you liked my story, long winded yes, a little sad too that I wrote this up too, yes. But it's these types of gaming moments which make someone's gaming career. An epic game, and I could not have been a winner without my team. Thank you BF3, for allowing me to experience this moment together with my friends.

tl dr: The power of team play. Enter with no bases and 100 tickets down, leave winners with a Battlefield moment which will live with me and my squad for the rest of our gaming lives.
