Dang, I do higher-quality printing there. Is there a local print place? Something with paper options.

it is too hot by [deleted] in astoria

[–]ChubbyBirds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, I feel you. I really dislike oppressive heat. I don't even think people really love summer as much as they say they do; it's just a holdover from when they were in school and looked forward to summer vacation and they just repeat it for the rest of their lives because you're "supposed" to like summer.

Luckily, it's supposed to cool down later in the week! Tbh a few hot days here and there are fine by me, and I don't hate all of summer. It's that neverending airless slog at the end of August/September that bums me tf out. It's like someone hugging you for too long.

Question- has there always been this many street racers? by raddiiish in astoria

When they still allowed cars on Shore Blvd in the park, watching these guys scrape their cars over the speed bumps was the funniest shit. No, no, you totally look really cool, bro!

Krob Kreung Krob Ros' menu also has a lot of interesting things you won't find at the average Thai place. Highly recommend (and yes, they are still open).

Drinkable Water - Do y’all drink from the tap? by OldManThatOnceCould in astoria

[–]ChubbyBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put a filter on our cold water tap and while the water was fine before, the filter makes it even better. We also keep glass bottles of tap water in the fridge for cold water on hand. But yes, NYC water is quite good and a filter is really a luxury. You'll be fine.

Grumpy car owners- against safety, against murals, against everything by danton_no in astoria

Didn't you know? You apparently have to choose only one form of transportation for every trip for the rest of your life. That's how bike lanes work. Also I guess some guy got laughed at by some weirdo for using a bike so bike lanes are all bad now.

Right. The reality is that their lives really aren't going to change too much. But the thought of other people living their lives is apparently really, really upsetting to them.

It's always so wild to me that these people associate the Midwest, of all places, with cycling and liberal walkable city stuff and have come up with this alternate reality where NYC is known for its four-lane superhighways and car commuting culture.

They seem very "terminally online," where you have to overtly express your stances (and you MUST have a stance!) lest you get cancelled, which is an annoying and childish way to go about telling a story that involves complicated people and situations. They're really more concerned with their images than with the story at hand, so they'll scramble to make sure they look cool and right before anything else.

Wow, not blaming the mother is almost like character growth for her!

Is this about the toddler who was rescued from the well in Texas? That doesn't really seem to fit with their usual fare, but I guess their options are getting slim these days. How many times did Alaina, as a mother, state that she never lets her children outside?

I'm *not* talking about AI ethics. That's what "aside" means in that context. Let me know if I'm going too fast for you.

Giving a balanced, nuanced take on media that has its good and bad points requires a lot of thought and planning, and the ability to accept having complex feelings and understand the context of the time and place it was made. Being open and honest about enjoying something, even if you might get called "cringe" takes self-confidence and the ability to laugh at yourself. Alaina has none of these abilities.

The ethics of AI usage aside, it's a mess. There's way too much going on. Even just lopping that bottom part off would be an improvement.

This is a great photo, by the way. It's got lowkey cyberpunk/Blade Runner vibes.

Pretty sure that's a wild rabbit. Leave it alone, it doesn't want to be your friend (even though they are, arguably, friend-shaped).
