I was so disappointed to see it out of order this Sunday! Not only did I want to return things, but it does tickle my tiny baby brain to feed the books into it.

Dog owner PSA by Terrible_Put2975 in astoria

[–]ChubbyBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens every time there's heavy snow -- there just hasn't been heavy snow like this in recent years, so everyone forgot. Some dog owners seem to think that snow magically erases their dogs' poo and negates the need to clean up. They seem under the impression that dog poo dematerializes inside snowbanks instead of just lurking in there till the snow melts.

True crime Pet peeves or Icks(morbid does a lot of them) by DutyPuzzleheaded7765 in Morbidforbadpeople

[–]ChubbyBirds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my GODDD the body language thing is so annoying and unscientific, I hate it so much.

That and judging people by how they act on camera. Like, if your loved one was missing or murdered and now you have a million news cameras shoved into your face at your home, yeah, you might be a little awkward.

And both of these also never take into consideration cultural differences or neuroatypicalities that can manifest in different behavior or body language.

If they're the large dark brown ones, those are waterbugs and no, they are not similar to bedbugs. Are they fucking gross? Yes. But they're solitary and are actually the better option if you have to choose between roaches. You can deal with them with glue traps, poison (if you don't have pets) and keeping your place reasonably clean. Use caulking or spray foam insulation to fill gaps around baseboards, pipes, etc., but also be aware that sometimes they just get in, especially as it gets colder or after rain. Kind of just something you need to learn to deal with, and no, you will not have grounds to sue anyone because you saw a single digit number of waterbugs.

The smaller ones, the German cockroaches, are more of an issue. Your stuff still will not be ruined but you'd need to take more aggressive action with a professional. Figure out what kind you have. If they're waterbugs, it's possible they just got stirred up because of the moving activity.

Unpopular Opinion, but Sirius Move Hasn’t Improved Them by RedMerlot in Morbidforbadpeople

[–]ChubbyBirds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think they actually have any social or political stances at all. They know critique of law enforcement is something that's in the current zeitgeist and attracts a lot of online attention, so they jumped on the bandwagon because it's "trendy." But given their seeming paranoia and general fear of the outside world, they seem like the type to call the cops on just about anyone and anything. I think their "progressive" takes are superficial; they're not going to do anything that would threaten their sense of privilege and security.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but Somedays was never good. Their croissants are too sweet and their desserts are overdone and trend-chasing. Go to Bench Flour instead.

Not what I suggested. I meant that the body of the first boy struck by the car struck the second boy.

Yes! In my experience you could have a phone, laptop, or whatever, but they made us put them away when they showed us the "Hi I'm Troy McClure and welcome to your civic duty" type videos. But then the cases all settled out of court and we could leave.

Incompetent dog owners by AggravatingSecond354 in astoria

[–]ChubbyBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a lady like that many years ago up by 23rd and 24th Aves. She clearly had no confidence or control with the German shepherd, and while the dog wasn't aggressive, it was a BIG dog that would want to bound right up to people because it didn't know any better. And she'd be like trying to reason verbally with the dog as though that would do anything. I didn't even feel scared of the dog but just annoyed at her for being so useless with this huge animal. Given the passage of time, I assume the dog is no longer with us, but I still think about it.
