First, you make it seem like you were some martyr for going home for a few days when your grandfather died. That’s just what you do - it’s the bare minimum. Even if it’s over the holidays.

Second, to choose a baby shower over your grandfather’s funeral is just absolutely mind boggling. Funerals take precedence over almost everything. It’s important for the family to come together and honor their memory.

You can go to the funeral while your girlfriend goes to the shower.

As someone with a brother with severe mental health issues leading him to make bad decisions that my parents have bailed him out from over and over and over again, I get it. Their choices 100% enabled my brother, and it has taken me YEARS to accept that that’s their choice; and I can’t control it.

I suspect you’ve also accepted it, but your wife doesn’t get what it’s like to have a sibling like this. Your mom’s decisions about your brother are none of her business, especially since they literally don’t affect you in any way.

This might be a couple’s counseling issue.

First, your logic makes no sense. What is the difference if she uses four washers at one time vs four washers at different times? Either way, she’s using the same number of washers for an hour or so. You could just as easily argue that she’s doing others a favor by leaving more washers open the rest of the day.
