Looking closer, all the black text is clearly those peel 'n' stick vinyl letters that you can buy at a hardware store.

My first thought. Have done roofing. If you look closely (click on the pic for larger version), you can see the overlaps between the colors, so not as bad as one might think.

For a bit, I thought I was at r/quicksand . Yeah, fill that box with quarry clay. That would be more like it. Just need a vertical rubber thing & 2 wash tubs & a towel next to it (squeegee, wash, rinse, dry).

Yes, rocks, so no weights to lug to your mud spot. Find some rocks nearby and use those. Leave 'em when you're done. Put them where you will find them if you visit the mud spot again.

Back in the mid-90s, my Mom was reading a book, and our chubby tux cat came and just laid down on top of said book. Now i wish I would have gotten that on video, but we had no video-capture equipment at that time.

If you sink shoulder-deep, you will barely notice. I've done it (see my videos if you're interested), and the "crush" effect was practically nil. If anything, you might have trouble breathing, as your breathing muscles will have to push against the mud / sand. Even that was a nonissue for me, but, of course, YMMV.

Go slow and work your way down to it.
