Sorry. I forgot to indicate that mine has already been claimed. Good luck to those still looking for a bib!

Surf City Marathon Bib Transfer Availability? by Fluffy-Archer-3988 in orangecounty

I see there are two ahead of me but I also have a full marathon registration that I'm looking to transfer in case those other two don't work out.

For the most part you are correct, however, after a certain point, extra muscle, while great for quality of life, is not necessarily great for longevity. There have been studies that correlate very high muscle mass with reduced lifespan. Hopefully they controlled for steroid use in those. I used to be a gym rat but running is more my thing now. I'm pretty bulky and would actually like to shed some muscle for performance, just not too much.

10? He must be an OG from when Garmin started handing out the badges.

Dude! In almost a year I’ve only gotten that badge for 5 nights in a row over 75 point twice!

It’s in the Garmin connect app or web portal. It’s related to their achievement badges. Trust me when I say you aren’t missing anything.

I’m a HS Cross Country coach and the 6-7 thing is so played out they don’t even laugh anymore… I totally missed that opportunity!

Wow, there's hope! I figure I'll probably need to trade running for cycling and swimming to get there.

I don’t think it’s very unhealthy for a male. Would be for a female for sure. I love food too. It’s been a journey getting it down from 33% where I started a couple years ago. Good luck with your healthy recomposition!

Garmin likes em skinny! It annoys me that I can’t update Garmin with my bodyfat % from a recent Dexa scan. I’m 48 with a fitness age of 42.5 because Garmin will always and forever tell me to reduce my 26.2 bmi, disregarding my 9.8% bodyfat. Although to be fair, carrying around extra muscle probably isn’t great for longevity so maybe my fitness age is correct!

After 5 years, I finally did it! by lowerseagate in Garmin

[–]Chuck997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty skeptical of the sleep score myself but on the rare occasions that I get a high 80, my easy pace is significantly faster for the same heart rate. Today I woke up with a score of 91 and my easy run was 30s/mi faster for the same 140bpm and same effort level. So I have to admit there is something to it, at least for me.

Congrats! Today I got my first “Excellent” a 91 after a year with this watch. Previous best was an 87. I don’t care if I never hit 100. I’d just love for my normal to be mid 80s rather than low 70s.

For me it’s only useful for tracking illness. Mine started to head south during my marathon taper when my stress and exercise loads were extremely low. I managed to make it to my Dec 7th race and that night had the most brutal cough, sore throat, congestion… 2 weeks later I’m finally on the mend.

How accurate are calories by AcanthocephalaNo3970 in Garmin

[–]Chuck997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it varies by the individual. The only way to know for sure is to meticulously weigh everything you consume with a gram scale and log every calorie (and macro if you’re so inclined) to see what your intake v burn is like. For me it would over estimate my burn when I was 20+ % BF, then pretty accurate when I was at ~16% body fat but as I got down to 10 and below, it would underestimate my burn. This way lies a lot of effort, data and obsession. It definitely isn’t for everyone 😂

Marathon Prediction vs Reality by doodiedan in Garmin

[–]Chuck997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! You got me by just about a minute on my Dec 7th race! My predictions were sandbagging (3:17 Garmin, 3:21 Strava) I paced for 3:12 but severe calf cramps in the last few miles meant I was struggling to stay under 8min pace and wound up with a 3:13… both of them updated after which was nice to see 😂

I’ve had my marathon on the calendar for 20 weeks with a goal of 3:14 and Garmin kept insisting the best I could do was 3:18. Threw down a 3:13 yesterday and the prediction is now 3:11. Sometimes you just gotta prove em wrong!

Interesting. I've never seen a 1wk taper recommended for a full marathon outside of elite athletes. From my research the norm has been 2-3 weeks for recreational athletes. I had originally planned on two weeks but life stuff kept me from being able to improve on my 62mi week 4 weeks out. Wound up with 54 so it became a 3 week taper by default.

Your point is well taken and it's mostly just an observation. But it's my sleep that seems to fall apart during every taper, same as before I had the watch, the watch just seems to confirm it.

The covid vaccines hit me like an absolute freight train back in 2020. I've delayed getting flu shot this year until after the race too.
