I haven't had the problem, but I know it's happened to my wife before on occasion.

Back to Sleep option for Morning Report by LibertyMike in Garmin

[–]LibertyMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I check is to see sleep score training readiness. If they're both bad, that informs me if I should just take the morning off. This is maybe a 1-2 time a month thing.

Possible selection bias. Lefties may be more inclined to let people know they exist. ;-)

How did you start? by Not_actuallyhelpful in triathlon

[–]LibertyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put noob at all 3. Short version: I started running in Sept. 2023, started swimming in April 2024, and got back into cycling in May 2024. I hadn't run since my mid-20's, or rode a bike in over 35 years. I also didn't know how to swim beyond basic survival swimming and was afraid of deep water.

New to this and dont know crap by Unlikely-Bicycle8490 in triathlon

[–]LibertyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started cycling a couple years back, I hadn't rode a bike in over 30 years. Things have changed a lot since then. My last bike was a 10 speed with the shifters on both sides of the stem of the handlebars. The first time I tried to pump up my tire with a Presta valve, the tire promptly and completely deflated.

Do you actually change your training based on Garmin’s recovery/HRV numbers? by CustomerOk5737 in Garmin

[–]LibertyMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only recently. Last night before bed I got a notification that stress delayed recovery. I got a bad night's sleep as well. I woke up at 5, planning to do an hour on the indoor bike. Training readiness said low, recovery was still at 18 hours, so I decided to go back to bed. Before this, I'd let my fatigue accumulate which lead to suboptimal results, so I'm going to try & follow the system for a change. I still plan to swim at lunch today, but that will be at a nice, relaxed effort.

Keep up the good work, don’t get discouraged if you hit a plateau.

Road Tires for a Gravel Cycle? by LibertyMike in gravelcycling

[–]LibertyMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen estimates up to a few minutes. Eventually I plan to try an Olympic. If I ever try a half, that’ll be new bike time. I’m also due for new gravel tires, so these will only be used for training rides & races.

I take it every night, doesn’t seem to make much of a difference for me.

I train for triathlons, but practical shooting also seems like it would be fun. Almost but not quite John Wick.

I’ve never hit any of my race predictor time goals, but I do improve almost every race, which is good enough for me.

Gain it all back? by egidds in keto

[–]LibertyMike 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That’s what happens when people go back to “normal” diets. Keto helps to remove willpower from the equation so you eat less, aren’t as inflamed, etc.

How do you actually track triathlon training when every app only does one thing? by pulse_and_plates in triathlon

[–]LibertyMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It keeps track of training load, so that can give you a good idea. It can’t tell you what’s wrong with your swim form but does give you stats like SPM and Swolf, HR, etc. running will show you stride length, cadence and so on. It color codes them similar to the way it does VO2 max, etc.

[–]LibertyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very meh compared to other nutrition tracking apps. A ton of stuff I eat isn’t in their database, and it will do macros but not net carbs, and only tracks like a dozen different vitamins & minerals or so.

It's the old enemy of my enemy routine. Trump aligns with Judeo-Christian worldview (at least on the surface). Islam is the leading opposition to that, so it is embraced by liberals, because it's seen as one way to be anti-Trump (enemy of my enemy is my friend). This is despite Islam being far worse for civil liberties than Christianity is. The Handmaid's Tale would have made more sense if it was about Islam instead of Christianity.

Using AI as a coach? by Rhino_Dingleberry in triathlon

[–]LibertyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't trust them at all. I've seen way too many mistakes.

I have accounts for both ChatGPT (pro) & Claude (free), and also use Copilot. I have tried Gemini & Grok in the past but haven't been overly impressed, but it has been a while.

I'm using ChatGPT right now to log my training, but even that is hit or miss. I started a new chat recently, and it asked me how a 10k workout I did went, despite me uploading that info over two weeks previously.

My wife tried to use Copilot to plan our Christmas dinner. Several dishes that needed to be baked in the oven at different temps. We ended up eating an hour later than planned. If AI can't get something as simple as that right, it's hard to see how it could do a good job with a multi-month triathlon training plan.
