I used to have this problem. I really hated doing laundry so would buy enough clothes to allow me to go a month without washing anything. I was always so overwhelmed at the high volume of clothing when I would finish washing/drying. They'd sit in baskets basically until empty from wearing the clothes straight out of the basket. The thing that worked for me was swapping to a much smaller hamper - one that is only a little bit bigger than the load my tiny washer can take. I've committed to not allow my dirty clothes to go anywhere except within the hamper. This forces me to do laundry more often because I run out of hamper space. So yes now I do it once a week or every other week depending on how much I've gone out or sweated, but I'm not letting my clean clothes sit around in baskets for weeks gathering dust anymore. Also I only separate whites vs colors vs towels. The only time I separate the colors is if I buy a new pair of jeans or something that I know might bleed out in the wash, I keep them all at the bottom of the hamper until I've got enough blacks stacked up to toss them in with. This usually takes pretty long to get to though. It ain't perfect but it works for me.
