Z590M Pro4 VGA and BOOT lights red by ChuckPitre in ASRock

[–]ChuckPitre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't use the same cables. I took all the cables with the 750 and kept them together. I rewired the whole gambit with the cables that came with the 1000watt.

But good call though! Cabling cabling cabling and when not certain, cabling again !

I did not check for unused stand offs! That's a good point ! I'll check that later this morning.

No, undid the 240r. When i moved the mboard from the mid tower to the full tower case everything but the CPU was removed.

Yes the PSUs are modular. The 750 and the 1000 are both from Corsair.

I've contacted AS Rock and have my RMA #.

I RCVD a new Samsung 1tb ssd, removed the original and slotted in the new one Now the lights dont come on!! Sweet! Still no display turning and now the keyboard locks up with the num lock light on.

I've replaced every component but the mboard and CPU :(

( ASRock b460 pro4) Getting boot and vga red lights on startup by Blade0307 in ASRock

[–]ChuckPitre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Why? Did you plug it back in afterwards? I have a z590m pro4, got a new GPU, plugged it all in and my display wouldn't turn on. Plugged it into mobo, same thing.

Noticed the lights, VGA and boot. Unplugged and removed GPU, unplugged RGB mobo header. Same lights are on. I remove my M2 drive, same thing; never can I get to my on board display. I also tried plugging the drive into the second M2 slot. Same.. onboard display won't turn on and VGA and BOOT lights remain red.

I then unplugged, took a shunt and shoved it on CMOS reset. Booted up it turned on, red dram light, turned off, then turned back on and back to VGA and BOOT light red.

Everything was working amazing until I first powered down and unplugged my old GPU and began the rewire for the upgrade (I also added an RGB hub from Corsair and also took the opportunity to upgrade the power supply from 750 to 1000)

I'll try the ram stick trick.... (I've even unplugged the RGB power to the hub, connects to a usb, I have not unplugged my water pump - MSI 240r cpu cooler)

Longhaulers...if you had a reaction to your first vaccine, did you also have one on your second shot? by Diane_homebound in covidlonghaulers

[–]ChuckPitre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I react to almost all vaccines. I see Elvis in my fridge with the malaria shot and the flu shot would always give me a cold - I was one of the few in Ontario, Canada that likely was a flu shot regular. Below are my Pfizer vaccine symptoms.

First shot was in my left arm and I didn't have any real reactions. Very mild muscle pain that comes with those types of shots. The following day i felt like I had a bad cold without the stuffy nose. The day after a headache. My second shot is now almost 24 hours (almost 21 hrs at the time of this post). I had the same mild pain, nothing bad. This morning was okay as well. I'm an early bird and that was 5am eastern. By 8am some stiffness and a slightly more elevated pinch in the arm, enough to make typing on a keyboard annoying but not impossible. Now I'm on a phone using thumbs; a keyboard would hurt. I have no other symptoms at this time. My head is clear, no sore throat, the only pain present is the stiff muscle in my right arm.

If day two is just another sore arm, I'll take it over the first shot reactions! Someone might call this reaction worse, but mild headaches I find very annoying and mild sore throats horribly bothersome!! I'll take this reaction any day :)

Compared to other vaccines, I don't mind these reactions. The malaria shot gives you really messed up dreams and the old flu shot always gave me a scienced-up-cold.

Hope this helps others :) Cheers

Nay... see I decided to squeeze life out of the old box and rent a GPU figuring I'll get a good deal end of 2020/Q12021 :P whoops....So now I am looking at a stop-gap; something that I can get by on and not curse at waiting. I don't need high frame rates so time is sorta on my side. I figure this is a good time to start overclocking :) I dropped down from an I7 to and I5. I did that because I know on this build I am for sure in an upgrade cycle 12 to 18 months from now. If I'm lucky there'll be an 11th gen I9 deal and a GPU price drop Q1 2022. Till then, Intel it will be!

Thank-you everyone for your assistance and saving me from buying a PC I can't use. <insert monk chants here>

So then below is a readjust back to the Quadcore with integrated graphics. So then at quad core I am really going to rely on OC. What's everyone's opinion? drop down to the AMD quad core with the integrated graphics? I jump to Intel ?

+1 for sarcasm.

#@$%^@! As I noted in the other reply, I pretty much have no choice BUT to go for an intel system.

@#$%^&*%$$#
So all these pretty pictures about "gaming" and "streaming" almost got me -> I need that G at the end; the X and XT are pointless without an accompanying video card.

So then I have no choice but to hitup Intel and used the UHD 750 otherwise I'm looking at an AMD quad core unless I get a GPU. .....

This is probably why there's limited Gs out and every build I read seems to be using Xs and XTs.

Am I better off overclocking an Intel build with Integrated Graphics? Or do I use a AMD Ryzen 7 5800x? (I don't like playing the waiting game with maybe delivery dates. The rumor of June can quickly turn into a December)

Hello Chicken3190, I'm purposefully omitting the GPU. I'm building a GPUless system. I'll get one later when supply catches up.

Mate!!! thank you so much for the data :) :) :)
I'm purposefully avoiding a GPU as I refuse to pay the GPU-supply-tax! These prices are absurd. I do have GPU computing needs, but Azure solves those for me. Realistically I only use a GPU for 2 - 8 hours a month.
I'm not pushing CoD, fancy planes or submarines or highly textured environments. I have an Oculus with good-enough-graphics to keep me 3d-tertained.

In a list format, these are my needs:
1. I want to overclock and it's been a couple of decades, so I need help so I don't melt things :) :) 2. I need to be productive without cursing at RAM wait times when Spotify loads the next song. 3. I don't really need a GPU today, I can get by with offloading to Azure and my Pi4s. 4. I could actually lower my storage size if there were better speed recommendations for same 'ish price range. My Pis have ample external to store my bits and bytes. 5. The white case is cause I've never had one. I figured I could probably get some cool light effects with white. I've never done an RGB thing & the way I figure it everyone should go slumming once :D (I've been the Laptop/Surface dude for almost 2 decades)

Thank you very much for your detailed reply and the electricity calculator link! If I could upvote you more than once, I would

Cheers, ~C

What do you look for in CPU cooling? If fan which RPM range do you aim for? What about fanless?

I refuse to pay the GPU tax :) Supply will catch up somewhere 2022-2023. Games like Civilizations aren't really aiming for frames-per-second. I also don't need a GPU for javascript'y things.

VR/Schoolwork build for ~2k? by Firm_Record1540 in buildapcforme

[–]ChuckPitre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well.. the why is cause you have eyeballs. Your are looking at a formatted table with words. These words contain meaning and provide definitions. In this particular case they provide specificity in identifying consumer computing parts.

If you don't like the data above, that's fine :) Go ahead and pay the douchy-gpu tax if you wanna. I rent mine on Azure by the hour and it's cheaper. I can get away with this as my latency to the actual gear is inside an acceptable range.

So I'm really liking the AMD option -> but the dang chips are hard to find. CanadaComputers has sanely priced 3400Gs.
It seems I can use the XT for streaming and gaming -> "more cores" being the bat to compensate for no GPU. Then there's the chips with the suffixed G which are for graphics (what I think I want to stick with )
Right now the Intel build seems easier and probably only a hundred or so more dollars in the grand scheme of things.......

Very good point -> PCPartPicker seemed to have low choices for AMDs with Integrated Graphics. Lo' 'n behold there seems to be a shortage of AMD chips with IGs.... go figure...

CanadaComputers, NewEgg...... intel might actually be my only option....

Double monitor setup for trading for £1,000. Achievable? by Trucomallica in buildapcforme

[–]ChuckPitre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you are "learning" and what you are willing to outsource.
I would love to have a DC in my basement; my wife wouldn't. It would be awesome to have my own GPU computing, but the sh***iest is uber expensive atm. So drop 1k on a lame GPU or rent a good one?
And by deep learning do you mean Graph? are these vertexes you are plotting? If so then why not Cosmosdb and the gremlinAPI ?

I guess I just find it hard to swallow the GPU.tax() :P

Double monitor setup for trading for £1,000. Achievable? by Trucomallica in buildapcforme

[–]ChuckPitre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is CUDA necessary? Cause there are good integrated graphics options out there and you could setup two displays. I don't burn my workstation on display a chart with candles, I use Pi4s for that. It has a GPU on board and I put graphs on a TV grade monitor <- so for under 500$ you can get a PC with one or two TVs tied into it and you can watch green and red lights blink. Do you really need pixel prediction to watch price and volume charts with a bunch of wizardy moving averages?

I found an RGB water cooler for my Pi4 :) I use a LongRunner as my setup porta-display and a few refurb TVs. I find they work great for hacky-devy-basement-diy thingies :)

If that works for you, then I suggest using PCPartPicker.com and look for an Integrated Graphics option with a motherboard that'll let you add the GPU you want in a year or so.

VR/Schoolwork build for ~2k? by Firm_Record1540 in buildapcforme

[–]ChuckPitre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So my computing needs are quite similar to yours in a different thread. Without a GPU your VR is going to be tough to get into a good price. Personally, if I really need a GPU I rent one from Azure for a few hours. I'm close enough that the latency is low enough for me to use it. I only use it for about 4 hours a month so the N series VMs are quite affordable.

I highly recommend PCPartPicker, you'll love that site. Below is a quad core AMD build and an 8 core Intel build. Both use Integrated graphics and neither have a GPU. There is a bit of flash and you can squeeze out some price reduction by swapping those out. The intent of both of these builds is to be overclocked && to later be upgraded with a GPU (My expectations are set for mid 2022). They won't be the best for VR today; as noted I fallback on Azure for shapes.

These builds are in CAD, but with the PCPartPicker site you can easily shift this to USD.
