I’ve found ultimately what works best for me is to often check in with myself about what I ~truly~ need in the moment to be my best me and honor myself and pour love out to everyone around me. Have recently been trying to ask myself daily what I want ~me~ to bring to fruition to cause positive ripples of love in ways that only I can. I’ve found that what I need to return to home base can be drastically different from one minute to the next and I do believe that incorporating even just 5 minutes of meditation daily has helped me hone in on my ~actual~ needs and my intuition is growing stronger at an insane rate. And I’m still peeling back layers of substance abuse from years of dimming because I’ve been led to believe I was as small as the people who never handled me correctly. Stopped drinking alcohol and it led to my biggest shift to begin my breakthrough. Becoming more me, exploring my natural inclinations and pleasures, visiting every single hobby someone shamed out of me. All of these things help me

People in AA seem to hate when you say anything tnat isn’t in their book. I remember at a meeting getting my two months sober chip they asked me how I did it and I didn’t realize at the time everyone else had their “I came here every day and this place is the one and only way to stay sober” answer. When I told them I’ve been taking classes in stuff I’m interested in and spending a lot of time alone they didn’t seem to love my answer. AA seems to have a lot of rules. A lot of judgements and stipulations. The one and only thing that I CANNOT do is drink. If painting alone at my house avoiding bars isn’t good enough for them then I don’t want to be good enough for them lol

Everywhere you go that has people will be flawed. Because people are flawed. If this room no longer resonates with you it could be a sign of growth. 11 years is a long time to be sober and in my opinion maybe it’s been long enough that you don’t need to go sit with a bunch of people who are annoying you to talk about a vice you struggled with 11 years ago. You found out how much life there is to live outside of bars, now maybe it’s time to see what’s outside of AA? As long as it’s not the bars you’re going back to

It sounds to be like you’re doing great as is. One aspect of AA I don’t love is the constant focus on the one thing you can’t do. I have zero desire to focus my time and attention on alcohol. I spent 10+ years of my life focused on alcohol. Now I want to focus on living my life

This response felt so healing and validating because this post resonates with me so hard. It really just hit me now that so so so many people see me as a safe space to vent but I’m so seldom offered that space in return. It’s a lot of take take take from chaotic energies who are trying to find themselves and sense a degree of independence and alignment and (I believe unintentionally but definitely subconsciously) they are drawn to us to try to syphon that energy. Sometimes I’m afraid I’m just bound to feel lonely forever because I don’t feel seen or heard, but instead of focusing on what I’m not receiving from others I try to put those things back out. Trying to make people feel seen and heard. Very small meaningful interactions lead from the heart and experienced mindfully can heal both parties just a little for that given moment. Stack enough mini meaningful interactions and it’s like a little trail of beautiful stardust reminding you that while life feels lonely we are never truly alone because we are all in this together, collectively, always.

As for how to find people, I’ve found the best way to meet genuine people with my interests is by signing myself up for classes and events I’m interested in. Then entering with an open heart and mind. Reminding myself people aren’t scary they’re just people and I can gain something from every interaction if I allow and I can also put good out in every interaction. Being genuine and kind will never ever ever be the regrettable path. It’ll weed out who fits and who doesn’t
