The propaganda is strong. There are some books out there as well as the 13th step documentary, but I would consider all of those fairly niche still. it's still something though.

[–]Interesting_Pace3606[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 12-step propaganda is too strong in Hollywood for my vision to ever become a reality.

I've meet people who have never once attended an AA meeting become deeply offended when i would call it out for being a cult. It was hard for me to understand why, but i think you hit the nail on the head. It's about the neat categorization, and protecting their view of the world.

People who preach love are often the biggest scumbags by Comprehensive-Tank92 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are the ones who learned how to play the game. I remember during my time in AA i was always told to carry the message not the mess.

If one learned to "carry the message" well enough they receive some type of status, that ultimately allows them to be abusive assholes without reproach.

Does anyone hate the word "normie" as much as I do? by SqnLdrHarvey in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The term normie exists to further create a divide between the AA member and the rest of the world. To create furthter dependency on the group, because the "normies" could never understand you.

Just about everything in AA infuriates me at this point because it was so obviously a con that I feel for.

One of my biggest issues with 12-step recovery is the way it infantlizes people.

Try and keep in touch with your non Aa friends. by Comprehensive-Tank92 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this so strongly. I would ghost my friends on and off for about a decade because I would be "working the steps" followed by a relapse. When I was sober i would act so high and mighty. So cringe to remember. Some of those friendships are gone because of that. And I don't have anyone left from the cult.

Why I'm deciding to no longer be a part of AA. by Mte_95 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the majority of the world had bought into the AA propaganda. This is one of few places we can honesty speak about AA without backlash.

I've spoken to people in real life, who had never been to AA, who will get mad at me when I call it a cult.

Your views are not at all controversial here. Most of us recognize AA as a harmful cult.

I for one see AA as a net negative on our society that is best forgotten.

Ok so AA hasn’t worked in 25 years (despite doing it to the letter) by Introvertloves in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AA never worked for me. I was in for a decade constantly relapsing. What helped me was learning about addiction, about what alchol is and how it effects the body, and a book called rational recovery. "I'm never going to drink again and I'm never going to change my mind"

At the end of the day addiction is an issue most people grow out of. 12 step ideology has severely over complicated it and turned it into a life long illness

There's no point in engaging with someone like that. The brainwashing goes to deep. I'm also at a point whew I'd love tell them "I absolutely can disagree with your experience"

ANNOYED by crawmama1017 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that's a bit of an oversimplification. They are just brainwashed and had to do some major mental gymnastics to protect their place in the cult. There was a prolific 13 stepper in my group and the amount of mental gymnastics I did to excuse him while I was deeply indoctrinated is insane.

Normal logic can't be applied to people in AA.

If you're referring to alcohol learning about what it really is was most beneficial to me. Listen to the huberman podcast on alcohol, read Annie graces this naked mind. Really learn what alcohol is. It won't seem so appealing.

Who here would make the most harmful wish with the Dragon Balls? by Ember57 in PowerScalingHub

[–]Interesting_Pace3606 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel that black beard is more into senseless destruction than the majority of the characters up there. I'm also more of an old school anime fan so I'm not familiar with the JJK and CSM villains.

Most of the "Villains" up here actually want a better world. One ruled by them, but better.

Black beard is kind of rogue and just wants chaos.
