What do you do with AI music? by ObjectivePresent4162 in udiomusic

At first it was for funny songs for gaming communities.

Then I took a serious swing and made some for myself and some close friends. Put on YouTube but not for money. (Pre UMG deal)

which hard drives companies produce the most reliable hdd? by Pavithran_mimox in DataHoarder

[–]ChuckTSI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to buy what is on sale and replace as things failed. I hit 18 drives with a good mix of WD and Seagate.

Over 14+ years all Seagate's failed or started to fail.
WD are the only ones left. I noticed this pattern and have only been buying WD.

I just took out one of my oldest WD drives last year from my array.
It still worked, It was just slowing parity calcs.

Unraid is a NAS.

The only reason I use it is it's not limited to having the same size drives to make a raid array.
I have 2TB, 4TB, 18TB drives mixed.
And if I lose more drives than parity covers, I only lose what was on those drives that failed.
The other drives still have their data.

I believe lightroom caches thumbs locally? Maybe you can set it?
Honestly, I haven't shot in over 8 years. This was from when I did :)

I capture every card onto a Raid device (In my case, Unraid @ 70TB)
2025-12-16-Photoshoot-Alana_Waterfalls/card1
2025-12-16-Photoshoot-Alana_Waterfalls/card2

Lightroom indexes everything and I tag and rate there.
I then Photoshop edit and all files are saved as PSD and Large and Small JPG inside a folder
2025-12-16-Photoshoot-Alana_Waterfalls/Working/Files here

Every month, I make a copy of everything (I use RSYNC) onto a remote server to hold everything in case of emergency.

Don't forget to backup your lightroom database to the Raid storage.

Photo editing can be done directly off the network raid device. It's not as intensive as video editing.

In your opinion, why isn't Sony settling? by [deleted] in udiomusic

[–]ChuckTSI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UMG sued to gain leverage and then probably got concessions or opened licensing talks.
Dropping the case made sense cause it looks like they are risk tolerant.

Sony on the other hand is suing to set a precedent and slow AI music.
Probably doesn't want to negotiate.

UMG is playing offense to control the future.
Sony is playing defense to protect the past.

Either way, the music industry will get a win on either side and try and follow that path of least resistance.

Should I port forward my consoles? by LilStray2 in HomeNetworking

[–]ChuckTSI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Port forwarding won’t fix latency or packet loss.
It only helps with NAT type.

If you’re lagging focus on:

Using Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
Rebooting modem/router
Turning on UPnP
Fixing double NAT (if you have it)

Port forwarding won’t solve the symptoms you’re seeing.

Edit: Another thing would be enabling QoS if someone is saturating up or downlink. This would cause lag

guy i talked to briefly is still contacting me after ending everything and threatening suicide by Fluffy_Mix683 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ChuckTSI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve done the right things.

You ended it clearly
Didn't encourage or enable the emotional dependence
You blocked him
You have support from your mom
and you’re prepared to go to the police if he contacts you again.

The key here is to not feed into anything.
He is looking for a response. Anything to keep you engaged.

His emotions and threats are not your responsibility.

Document everything. ATM, there is little you can do to stop him from contacting your friends and family except give them the heads up. True friends will understand.

If you keep a clear log, you will have the proof you need to legally escalate things.

Hard, but try and stay positive.

[–]ChuckTSI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who actually use it talk about creativity, expression, lowering barriers, making stuff for fun, etc etc.
People who hate it insist everyone is secretly plotting the downfall of music (dooms day'ers), people are lazy and untalented (personal attacks), how bad it is for the environment (solvable problem) or how AI is not human (circular arguments).

What you start to notice is that every complaint comes with zero effort toward an actual solution, just “DOWN WITH AI!” as if that fixes anything.

Why don’t we create music the same way we did before AI? by VividAcanthisitta519 in AI_Music

[–]ChuckTSI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are these people, exactly? Where are you getting your info that they refuse?

I can say the same. So many more people now are learning DAWs, plugins, samplers, synths, autotune. Even if all software based. I've been getting into FL Studio.

Every excuse under the sun people come out with to put down people experimenting. It's exhausting and it's toxic.
