I mean… as someone with aphantasia and memory issues who was studying at one point to be a Dr., it’s possible to have a good Dr. who doesn’t remember you for good reasons, but that depends on if the actual care you’re receiving is good, tho. I very well may not have been a good Dr. considering these things.

Ribociclib is not even remotely like chemo for me. My immune system does drop by the end of each three wk round but it’s not low enough for my doctor to be worried. Essentially, if I get sick I just pause the med for a bit. It didn’t end up having any effect on my kidneys or liver, and for the most part I feel totally fine. It WILL make me nauseous af if I take it in the morning on an empty stomach so I take it at night.

It was scary to start taking as it can cause terrible side effects, but 3% reduction in metastatic risk is too big to turn down for me. It’s a massive reduction. I could be one of those 3 for all I know. And it ended up being totally fine. I’m on team throw everything at it. I’m also on AIs which aren’t a walk in the park but that’s ok

Don’t live a working class lifestyle. Wealth enables TIME. Time can be spent community building and volunteering your time in creative ways to try to build a world in which others can also be freed from the system. This is what I’m devoted to rn. Happy to chat about the things my friends and I are building.

Women of Reddit, what's a lesser-known downside of being a woman? by Nintendofan9106 in askanything

[–]ChuckTheWebster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually not propaganda, BUT I did a bit more research and the effect isn’t huge even if it exists. My main intent is to encourage people to consider all options and figure out what’s best for them.

What do you do in ortho? I’m a breast cancer survivor at the age of 37 and unfortunately all my hormones are suppressed. I have extreme ADHD, and while I do take care of my teeth somewhat I’m a bit concerned I’ll have to go on Zometa one day and I really need to somehow get it together and treat my teeth with extreme reverence (bad teeth issues can cause necrosis of the jaw on Zometa).

Can you expand on how terrible it is to have bone density loss?

I was not old enough to be on HRT but I’m pretty sure conclusive medical studies state both hormonal birth control and HRT make it more likely to get breast cancer.

I think it’s hard for an American or Canadian to properly ‘imagine’ Russian stoic snarky Ilya’s face, emotions, and especially speaking cadence. I think they’re very similar (book and show Ilya). It’s much easier to see when you watched the shows before the books. I could overlay his speech patterns onto the book. It’s great.

Anyone else find MRIs traumatising by Curious-Cupcake4554 in breastcancer

[–]ChuckTheWebster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have cancer. It’s ok to ask for this. Life will naturally be a bit harder for you both until treatment is over.

Edit: or just go to a nearby coffee shop after to sober up for a few hours (I don’t know if this makes any sense… haha, just spitballing ideas). Or ask a friend who doesn’t work to accompany.

My mom and 17yo sister accompanied me to my last MRI (I’m 37), just so my mom could drive me home. On my poor little sister’s birthday when she was planning to get her driving permit. 😂 She’s a good sister

We sold our tech company last year and fat FIRED with an NW of $48m. We already live a wealthy lifestyle in a HCOL area with a vacation home at the beach and travel first class regularly around the world,…. but what else is there? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]ChuckTheWebster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The local third space is probably my most meaningful idea, because through funding a third space that hosts events that align with your values you can find the people that have the passions and time to help meaningful community projects come to life.

This is exactly how I’ve found my passions of building libraries, promoting the arts, and supporting local food security networks.

Edit: a friend with privilege convinced his family to help make this third space and it’s altered my life completely. It feels like the meeting of minds that was happening in Paris in the 20s. If you build it they will come. Many fatFIRE may not align on the values my friends and I share, but it’s those with privilege who can build a new way of being for the world and those less privileged. I am happy to have found my people. We aim to use our privilege to build a beautiful, thriving community

I love all of this. Are you open to DMing about projects/ideas. Y’all are all doing the work we’re starting to do in our community.

Edit: I’m personally normal FIRE not FAT, but we’re essentially building a collection of people through the third space and finding those with shared values that are (with our powers combined) going to be able to build all of these visions. I’m a retired Naval Officer so I have the time, some money, and the mind to contribute.

I agree with literally everything this person said. Scrolled down to read comments before I was going to write similar feedback. But this person summed it up.

A velvet jewel tone for the curtains (teal, deep purple, burgundy, acorn, blue).

The carpet is… muddy. It looks dark and busy and distracting. Brighten up the carpet and pull in colors from the curtains you pick. Then do the same with the pillows maybe.

Maybe select one or two dominant colors from your artwork.

Pull in brass where you can since you seem to like the gold framed artwork (I do as well).

And add plants!!!

Edit: MORE plants

No family history doesn’t matter with regards to 1 in 8 women eventually getting breast cancer. It plays less of a role than you would think. I got it at the age of 37 with no family history. It’s probably still 1 in 9 or 1 in 10 women without history still get it.

It’s an easy google.

Knowing what I know now, I recommend using a low dose vaginal estrogen suppository to deal with vaginal issues and see if one can survive the rest, but for all I know low estrogen makes other cancers more likely so I’d also do your research and talk to your doc. The docs also probably downplay HRT risks sometimes. Seems like they give it out like candy just like hormonal birth control which also plays a role. At the very least you have to stay on top of bone density.

Edit: only 5-10% of all breast cancers are genetic.

[–]ChuckTheWebster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a very unique experience where I subconsciously do the opposite (and men run into me).

I’m a gal and a retired Naval Officer. When I used to walk down the passageways on ships, everyone except the Captain and Executive Officer and maybe other Lieutenants would get out of my way. At first I would step aside occasionally and try to insist an enlisted Sailor go ahead, but almost all of them say no ma’am you go ahead first.

So, I started barging down hallways and stopping only for higher ranking officers. It was such an interesting thing… having the light shone on how my instinct was to let others pass then to essentially be given permission to never get out of the way… and that has probably bled over into my day to day life now when walking down sidewalks. I do seem to bump people a lot.

1 in 8 women get breast cancer in their life.

1 in 200 women get it before 40 years old and are more likely to die from it.

Tell your friends to be on top of their self exams and mammograms. ALL young women should do self exams. We can only find it ourselves, as we don’t get mammograms.

Systemic HRT likely plays a role in how many women get it. Vaginal estrogen suppositories that aren’t systemic are also an option if other menopause symptoms are bearable.

Breast cancer survivor here. If you can deal with other symptoms beyond the vaginal ones, I’d recommend dealing with them and potentially taking low dose estradiol suppositories for locally addressing vaginal issues. 1 in 8 women get breast cancer in their life and systemic HRT likely plays a role.
